Johnny Mañanas
Johnny's is the best place to go on Sunday morning for a great breakfast burrito and a bucket of Pacificos. You can relax and sit outside in the shade. It is very casual and sometimes there are long lines and it takes a while to get your food so don't go there if you are uptight and want fast service. However, you you have a hangover and are moving slow this is the spot. The breakfasts are great as are the Johnnys nachos with chicken, total stoner food. Everythng is very fresh and made when you order it.— August 13, 2008 12:35 p.m.
Meat Poet
I love the Birdhouse. It is always very busy and the food is so fresh and delicious. The first time I went there an old lady wearing a shawl, who was a relative of the owner, came up to our table and offered to read my coffee grounds. I instantly accepted and she swirled around the grounds and looked furtively into the cup and told me "The grounds say you will be upset by a pregnancy." I stared at her and she shrugged. The girl behind the counter came over quickly and led the old woman off all the while reassuring me that her predictions seldom came true. She did not specify a time frame so I am not going to say she was right or wrong but it did disturb me in a sort of enjoyable way.— August 13, 2008 10:55 a.m.
Azafran
Azafran is one of those Coast Highway restaurants that always seem perilously close to going under. I hope that does not happen because Azafran has by far the best Mojito in all of San Diego. Back before Mojitos were trendy my son took me there and forced me to have one. It comes to the table in a water glass and looks like something that they dipped out of a swamp, but my oh my what a tasty beverage. They just rock that drink. Also the Casi-Guapo steak is so tender and delicious that I can't force myself to order anything else.— August 13, 2008 10:28 a.m.
94th Aero Squadron
This is a pretty fun place. Lots of happy people and even some dancing on the patio. But my favorite thing about the 94th is the Sunday brunch but not because of the eggs. The best thing is the group of swingers that meet there once a month for brunch and to talk a little too loudly about swinging. They are mostly older couples but man they know how to enjoy life like no group I have ever seen.— August 13, 2008 9:27 a.m.
