What the Foie?
Yum. The best comment I saw about fois was on a recent PBS blog, where someone wondered which was really worse for the duck: feeding it too much grain, or killing it for its meat or liver. HA!— June 26, 2012 11:22 a.m.
Classic Barb Guy
Wow, I didn't know there were such side effects associated with that stuff. It doesn't sound good when it's so complicated to try and stop. I think as with any self-medicating (prescribed or otherwise), we're probably better off trying to talk through why the undesirable feelings are coming up in the first place. I have a good friend who went through an anxiety therapy thing at UCLA. Apparently there is a famous program there and she swears by it. Maybe they have something online or an affiliate down here? I personally enjoy a few self-hypnosis iPhone apps (search for 'andrew johnson' to see them all). Thanks for sharing with all of us. Take good care, B.— June 26, 2012 11:15 a.m.
Son of Fare Thee Well: David Elliott
Thanks for the great piece, I so enjoyed it. Reader readers take note: Mr. Elliott is not "leaving," he was "let go" (from the U-T and now the Reader). Reader editors: The movie reviews (DuncanS and then DavidE) are one of the 2-3 things that bring me to this paper, so now there's one more reason not to visit!— June 14, 2012 8:30 a.m.
Golden Hill's Counterpoint
I don't like the trend of everyone at the paper working under a nom de plume. If you're embarrassed to broadcast your opinions in a public forum, perhaps you shouldn't go into journalism? Emma Goldman, Barbarella, Kirk "K".... It's OK online where I know not to trust someone who hides behind a pseudonym. But the Reader's anonymous stories are cheapened by this tactic. I guess this way you can hire/fire at will and just have the new person take on the reviewer name?— September 30, 2011 5:24 p.m.
