Golf deep in the hole — San Diego no exception
You can count me as one who started, spent a lot of money, lost interest and quit. The municipals are crowded, take forever and not as well kept up. The Country Clubs are intimidating. One thing is true- when you hit the sweet spot it feels GOOD! Glad to see you back, Don, I worry a little when you have no essays to read.— June 5, 2013 4:39 p.m.
Sweetwater cheer coaches seek pay from district
I feel really bad for these girls. To enter into any agreement with this district is a huge gamble. Sweetwater needs to short or cheat those in a vulnerable position (Starbucks planning?) in order to keep pumping money into real estate misadventures. What the district does the very best is pass the buck. Laurel and Hardy, The Keystone cops, Luci Ricardo, etc. must have been the model when writing the employer training manual. Come on SUHSD, pay these girls now!— May 9, 2013 1:13 p.m.
Montgomery Adult School’s last Viva Vida conference?
Great comments from everyone. Now, what will it take to wake up the electorate and vote these bums out? At what point does the amount of campaign money NOT determine the winner? The actions of just these few individuals is so shameful and disgusting, it is hard to admit that I live in this school district .— April 29, 2013 6:56 p.m.
Montgomery Adult School’s last Viva Vida conference?
Sweetwater is the poster child for a dysfunctional school district. Many people mature a little later in life and then realize that more education or training is necessary for successful independence. Are we supposed to just throw them under the bus? They are demonstrating a strong desire for self improvement which is a benefit to all of society. From alleged corruption to ridiculous real estate schemes, this school board needs to do a lot of work to right this sinking ship. Perhaps it is too late and there is just no hope. It may be time for the State of California to do an intervention.— April 27, 2013 11:07 a.m.
Strange South Bay Bedfellows
Power and control are the driving force behind the Greg and Cheryl endorsement of Lorena Gonzalez. Steve Castaneda is clearly the better candidate, especially for Chula Vista, but is an independent minded leader who did not back down when the Dumanis thought police tried to oust him from politics. I believe the Cox's are afraid of someone who may not play the games they do. Steve has all the residents needs in mind, not just the labor council and unions. For a better representative for the South Bay, Steve has my vote.— April 4, 2013 9:32 p.m.
Tourism Marketing District Board has nearly $2 million stashed away in reserve account
It seems apparent that the TMD and downtown redevelopment schemes share the attitude that when you are big and powerful enough, you can usually get someone else to foot the bill. I am glad that Mr. Filner is standing up to the insider cabal in San Diego. We have a wonderful city and great weather. If the hospitality industry wants to take advantage of these truths then let them pay their own way.— March 6, 2013 2:57 p.m.
Sweetwater school board to address campaign spending limits
All of these comments are amazingly accurate. oskidoll makes the most salient point -"they will not abandon their self-dealing ways. It is also abundantly clear that we ought to stop expecting them to do so." For the most part, their actions do not have consequences when it comes time for re-election. When residents really start to pay attention and not just read the glossy mailer or the title incumbent, then change is much more likely. The vote is our best weapon against incompetence.— February 20, 2013 1:53 p.m.
Sweetwater U partnership opposed by Freedom from Religion
Reader readers, I have always felt that our magazine was a good place to share ideas with the lofty goal of working toward a better world. I am disappointed that the conversation has become like a forum for sniping, immature adults. On the topic at hand and from a secular humanist standpoint, Sweetwater Union High School District would be making a colossal mistake if they vote to continue relations with a christian college. I would be thrilled to contribute to any fund or movement to stop this insanity.— January 19, 2013 10:45 a.m.
Guns: Meese warns Obama could be impeached
Don, Sometimes it feels like the gun industry relishes these kind of debates because sales are going through the roof across America. How ironic that we have gun buy-back programs at the same time as gun sales and shows like in Del Mar. I hope we can collectively come to our senses before another tragedy occurs. Thanks for all you do!— January 16, 2013 12:53 p.m.
Sweetwater school board avoids campaign donations talk
Lucy is the Sweetwater Board, the football represents transparency, integrity and campaign limits and Charlie Brown is the public always hoping that the next try at reform will be successful. We all know how the story ends-same old, same old.— December 13, 2012 11:37 a.m.
