The vote swinger
JoePublic -- this business about the McCann-Padilla election, and Moot's lawsuit, etc., does NOT involve the appointment process going on this week. The McCann-Padilla contest was for Council Seat #1. The vacancy is Mary Salas' old Council seat, #3, I believe, that was vacated because she was elected Mayor. The Council meeting to appoint someone to Seat #3 (?) is schedule for next Thursday, 4 pm, and will be televised on Channel 24.— January 5, 2015 3:57 p.m.
Everyone need not apply
Why contact "registered lobbyist Humberto Peraza for this story"? Because he usually knows what is going on and where all the bodies are buried! That is what good reporters do.— December 31, 2014 11:40 a.m.
Lost the election, won the plum
This is the true legacy of Mayor Cheryl Cox. She is always looking out for and rewarding the Cox dynasty cronies. Does not Greg Cox serve on this same Board? Did not Greg endorse Janney's failed bid to remain Mayor? It is lamentable that Mayors Tanaka and Morrison would go along with this blatant power grab. Since the new term does not begin until February 1, this should have been the appointment of newly elected Chula Vista Mayor Salas and newly elected Imperial Beach Mayor Dedina. Shame on all Cheryl.— December 8, 2014 4:43 p.m.
It would have been prudent...
Who applied for the $68,000 grant? And what was it supposed to be for? I think this would tell us a lot. Was it the greedy mayor, Cox, who pursues free money (grants, grants, grants) like pigs pursue slop? Thank God she is only going to be around for two more weeks.— November 25, 2014 4:10 p.m.
Ed's gone, but this Sweetwater shenanigan isn't
If anyone can watch that news clip of McCann and O'Neill and make a defense of either one of them, I would like to hear it. In my opinion, both of them showed a complete lack of intelligence, integrity, and leadership. I weep for Chula Vista.— November 21, 2014 10:52 p.m.
It takes a Village card room…
To: Sjtorres -- Just which one of the "insider cabal" do you work for?— November 1, 2014 10:22 a.m.
It takes a Village card room…
I do not know who Sjtorres is, but he/she must be very close to Cheryl Cox and/or ignorant of what really goes on. He/she always seems to spew Cheryl's line of baloney! I suppose Sjtorres thinks that Cheryl's endorsing Rindone for Mayor on KUSI was "news." A lot of us are grateful to the READER and Ms. Luzzaro for their in-depth "watchdog" reporting. Keep up the great work, Ms. Luzzaro, keeping us informed!— October 31, 2014 10:43 a.m.
Good ol' boys' and girls' club
Old Chulares said: "Maybe it is time for that antagonist group to start investigating the Chula district. Bet that will get the boards attention." Maybe he is on to something. We are very puzzled, why did three CVESD Board members all decide to not re-run at the same time? There has not been an "open" seat on that Board for decades. What do those three Board members know that we don't know? So, 'antagonist group,' do your duty!— October 26, 2014 3:28 p.m.
Good ol' boys' and girls' club
JoePublic is right. There was a time not too long ago when ALL 5 Board members of the C. V. Elementary School District had originally been APPOINTED, then ran as incumbents to stay on. Not a single one had earned their way on the Board by being elected. Off hand I cannot remember a time when ANY seats on the Board were truly open as now.— October 25, 2014 3:20 p.m.
Good ol' boys' and girls' club
Cheryl Cox and her lap dog (Supervisor Greg Cox) seem to be unable to resist wielding their power. Cheryl has always come down on the side of charter schools, whether they be good, bad, or indifferent. Are voters really going to allow them to continue eroding our public school system for their own power grab? I fervently hope voters see through this ploy!— October 25, 2014 11:08 a.m.
