Don't mess with Texas' labor pool
re Tom Glover: It troubles me that Tom Glover elevated his brother, Tim, to an administrative position soon after being named interim super. Soon, thereafter, Tim applied to fill the vacancy on the Chula Vista City Council. The Glover twins show an exceptional eagerness to climb the political ladder. While this may be good for the brothers, I do not think this is what we need in the South Bay, either at the school district or the city level.— January 31, 2015 10:53 a.m.
Don't mess with Texas' labor pool
The district is looking for an interim superintendent. I would suggest Admiral William Kowba. He is the immediate past Superintendent of the San Diego Unified School District. Reasons: (1) he just retired from the San Diego position, so he might be willing to be an interim. (2) He is not an educator, but a budget guru, so he would be perfect to straighten out the budget mess and the real estate mess left behind by Brand. (3) While not an educator, he was Superintendent of the San Diego schools long enough to have been an "educator" sufficient to manage the educational part of his job for a short time. As opposed to Brand, when Lowba retired everyone seemed sorry to see him leave, but he seems to have built a firm foundation for the new Superintendent. And he would be free of the "cronyism" that seems to permeate South Bay politics.— January 30, 2015 12:33 p.m.
Okay…we'll take Steve
WOW!!! Have we ever been so supremely duped? It seems to me that when David Malcolm failed to power-play the City Council into appointing "barbie-doll" Shirley Horton, he settled for "Ken" (his old friend and fellow investor, Steve Miesen). This explains why Councilmembers Bensoussan and McCann finally capitulated. What a perfectly awful outcome for Chula Vista.— January 20, 2015 5:14 p.m.
Condition: bleak
While I am appalled by SUHSD’s penchant for wild real estate speculation, I am also concerned about the City’s seemingly cheer-leading collusion. Surely, someone should have seen how grandiose and impossible the Colony project was. Our City leaders persist in hoping that some grand development will come along to save us. Meanwhile, on the west side we have lost K-Mart, Target, Anthony’s, El Torito’s, the old Soup Exchange, and now the anchor restaurant on the bayfront, a la Jakes’ Fish and Grill, South Bay Fish and Grill, lastly known as the Dolphin! There was much crowing about putting H Street through to the bayfront . . . to go where? The District headquarters should most definitely be kept on the west side.— January 16, 2015 4:40 p.m.
Horton's at the door
My spouse told me that John McCann would not be the jerk on the Council that he was on the high school board because the City Council is an entirely different situation. Wow, it did not take my spouse long to admit THAT IDEA was wrong last night! Has anyone heard that Moot is having any luck with his lawsuit? Is there hope?— January 13, 2015 11:06 p.m.
Horton's at the door
Pamela Bensoussan and John McCann both have ties to David Malcolm. Shirley Horton owes her entire career political to David Malcolm. If they succeed in getting Horton on the Council, David Malcolm will be de factor Mayor of Chula Vista.— January 12, 2015 8:18 p.m.
Horton's at the door
Councilmember Bensoussan's role in this power grab is fascinating. She is very angry over labor/Democratic party's support of Mary Salas in the Mayoral primary. Labor/Democratic party cannot be too pleased with her stubborn support of Horton. Is she about to bolt to the Lincoln Club/Republican party? Either way, I think her political career is over when she terms out next year. Meanwhile, she may end up saddling us with Horton for two loooong years. I weep for Chula Vista!— January 12, 2015 3:28 p.m.
Horton's at the door
We did not even recognize her the other night. She looked older, and of course the big change was that the last time we saw her, she was a blonde. Now, apparently, she is a brunette. Hmm. Maybe a zebra CAN change its stripes!— January 10, 2015 9:56 p.m.
Horton's at the door
We heard a number of weeks ago that Councilmembers Bensoussan and McCann, in cahoots with David Malcolm, would do exactly what they have done so far. Anniej has it exactly right -- they are hellbent on appointing Shirley Horton to the Council. In my opinion, this all about who is going to control the development of the Chula Vista bayfront. If you recall, when John McCann was a Council member he was a solid advocate of bringing the Chargers to the bayfront. One of his questions Tuesday night to the interviewees was, “would you support organized sports on the bayfront?” All that being said, Cheryl Cox and David Malcolm want Horton on that Council because then they can control/manipulate the Council. Sadly, what is best for Chula Vista is not even a consideration. James Clark, Bill Hall, and Mark Liuag all offer the promise of being able to bring new businesses to Chula Vista. Appointing any one of these three would be a giant step toward making Chula Vista a more desirable place to locate your business. If Bensoussan and McCann continue their stubborness, I think an election is inevitable. To avoid an election, three of the Council members must agree on an appointee before January 23.— January 10, 2015 4:44 p.m.
The vote swinger
If you watched the City Council meeting tonight (Jan. 6) you heard something that probably knocked you out of your chair. Councilman John McCann was thanking all the people who have contacted him to wish him well, etc., and he apologized that he had not been able to to answer their phone messages or emails -- "I DO HAVE A DAY-JOB." I shouted into the TV, WHERE? WHERE? WHERE? -- but he could not hear me. Does anybody know what his "day-job" is??— January 6, 2015 7:15 p.m.
