U-T to Stay in Mission Valley for Now; Vows Return to Profitability
Don, Sure, the newsroom is full of Kool-aid swilling ink-stained wretches. We chose it over Geritol - let us know if we made the right decision. Sadly though, you're facts veering off course again. The 401K match was restored months ago. Thursday was an announcement about the restoration of salaries cut under Copley and the reduction of furlough days, also created under Copley. What obligation did Platinum have to restore these things? "I do have inside sources..." Really? Bulls--t.— August 18, 2009 10:10 p.m.
U-T to Stay in Mission Valley for Now; Vows Return to Profitability
Don, You were one of us. You worked hard. You earned your salary and you took your 401k and your pension and you retired. Nobody forced you out. Nobody told you "I'm sorry to have to tell you this but..." You have no idea what is going on today. You have no idea what the staff in the newsroom is facing today. You sit a million miles away and you guess - and you should admit that to your audience. Instead, you represent that you are qualified to pontificate on the inner workings of the today's U-T. Ain't that easy? Long ago your few sources (Rose, Sandy et al) walked out the door because they chose to. The newsroom has changed and an emerging spirit exists - one that is beginning to believe that we've seen the worst; one that's angry at the entitled, pension drawing dinosaurs who now sit back in snowy enclaves and bitch about the paper they once knew. One that you would be impressed with if you took the time to report. Sadly, you have betrayed them. Like so many, the older you get Don - the better you were - and the more you think you know about a place and people that are moving on to rebuild. How much do you really know? Your suppositions are baseless and your conclusions are more often wrong that even close to the truth. Be honest with your audience, admit that you really don't know a thing about today's newsroom. You don't know the strengths and you don't know the weaknesses. Tell them you are at best, guessing and at worst, simply making stuff up to feed the mob enough meat to get you page views. You have always sold to your audience that, above it all, you are an honest writer - why tarnish that that now. The other option is to keep up the venom, Hellcat wold have no reason to crawl out of his sewage filled gutter each morning if it weren't for this forum you've created. Even you have to be growing a little tired of the piss and vinegar he and others spew on your alma mater.— August 18, 2009 9:26 p.m.
