Entertaining, edifying, funky and funny - Mama Tokus is a wordsmith, singer and MC
"A hybrid of cabaret, R&B, blues, funk and fun, Mama Tokus bursts out of the nu music hall scene (whatever that might be) with a first album stuffed full of great ideas put to great tunes – and isn’t that the best kind of music?" - 4-star review in R2 roots magazine
"On The Ragtime should have its place in every blues and roots fan’s collection" - Back to the Roots blues magazine
“Thank you so much for your talent, your enthusiasm and showwomanship.” – Peter Oliver, promoter of Gator By The Bay Festival, San Diego, California.
Mama Tokus is a soulful blues, R&B and gospel-inspired performer from the Deep South West of the United Kingdom.
She writes and sings her own compositions – bringing women’s blues bang up to date for the 21st century. And she injects cheeky humour into her music, making her show memorable and funny for the audience, whilst harking back to sassy female performers like Dinah Washington and Josephine Baker.
Mama Tokus is also a comic poet & MC, performing funny spoken word on subjects including womanhood, technology, language and, of course, music.
