The life and death of Oceanside mobile homes
Attorneys warn us against "plants" in our own communities who misdirect residents away from legal help, cause divisiveness and keep residents "dumbed down" about their rights. There's nothing in this article that cannot be corroborated by City data, area attorneys specializing in mobile home law, Oceanside MAC's reps (most are HOA officers in their own parks and 3 are City Commissioners) and the 100's of Oceanside residents we continue to help. These are not "mom and pop" parks anymore; these are large parcels of land located along major transportation corridors being targeted by investors. As for what the City can do, these are mostly matters of civil law, requiring the assistance of attorneys who specialize in this field, which overlaps with real property, estate laws, probate laws, health & safety codes, City ordinances, etc. Through Oceanside MAC we help keep legal costs down under the supervision of area attorneys specializing in this complex area of law. And for those who're calling seniors, veterans, blind and disabled persons "trailer trash," these homeowners aren't living on anyone else's dime. Their homes aren't "mobile" (drive through Rancho San Luis Rey or Laguna Vista and see for yourself). These homeowners bought and paid for the home they can afford, pay all maintenance, utilities, taxes and extra fees that pay for administration of the City ordinance. Last time we counted, there were over 750 veterans living in these communities, some who fought in 3 wars who deserve your thanks and respect.— January 6, 2020 10:36 a.m.
Cavalier mobilehome owners in Oceanside tripped up trying to sell
Not sure where you got your information, but see the CA Mobilehome Residency Law. The heirs (especially if they are on the title of the home with right of survivorship and/or named in a Will) do have the right to sell their home. http://www.hcd.ca.gov/manufactured-mobile-home/mo…— April 4, 2019 2:50 p.m.

Unfortunately, neither we nor their own HOA were contacted until AFTER there was no response to 4 valid offers to purchase, the heir was served with the Unlawful Detainer, a notice to remove the home and a bill for $6K in "storage fees." We referred them to attorneys specializing in mobile home law. A letter was sent to the park's attorneys, who didn't respond until weeks later after the home was already gone. Time is of the essence in these matters. The sooner we know, the sooner we can get homeowners to the RIGHT resource, attorneys, city, county state authorities, law enforcement, investigators, etc., depending on the individual situation.— April 4, 2019 2:46 p.m.
Cavalier mobilehome owners in Oceanside tripped up trying to sell
At trials and arbitrations park owners' experts testify that the land is now worth about 5 or 6 times more without mobile homes on it (as high-rise, high density development, e.g., Catalina MHPark on Coast Hwy. is now luxury condos). The other factor is that they were originally built as "mom & pop" businesses, then passed to children, then grandchildren who sold to corporate investors. Most parks are adjacent to major intersections, freeways, and commercial/retail which make them a prime target for investors.— March 26, 2019 7:16 p.m.
Cavalier mobilehome owners in Oceanside tripped up trying to sell
Oceanside mobile homeowners who need assistance are urged to contact Oceanside Mobilehome Advisory Committee (Oceanside 'MAC') for referral to the appropriate resource (attorneys specializing in mobile home law, elder law, etc., City staff, Code Enforcement, Law Enforcement, D.A.'s, HCD, Fair Housing, Mobilehome Ombudsman, and more). Each individual situation is unique and it is vital to connect with the right resource as quickly as possible. Oceanside MAC: (760) 722-0340.— March 26, 2019 3:48 p.m.
Wild West at Oceanside Airport
The homes came first, some I believe were built in the 1950's. Over the last 5 years there have been numerous complaints filed and made in public at City Council meetings of unsafe practices, flying as low as 40-ft. over rooftops in the Eastside neighborhood, sky-divers landing on Hwy. 76 in traffic, falling backpacks, GoPro cameras, shoes, etc. landing in people's yards while children are there. These aren't just neighbors visually observing these things, this is actual flight data being tracked at the suggestion of the airport so it can be reported. Although it was suggested that the airport should "check people's pockets" before they go sky-diving, that's hardly sufficient when there's no tower, no air traffic control (what's to prevent a plane from taking off or landing as sky-divers descend?) There's no security to monitor or regulate these practices. Why are pilots flying up this hillside over Eastside anyway when there's nothing at the top of the hill except residential homes? This is likely a lawsuit waiting to happen.— January 31, 2019 9:54 p.m.

Record-release roundup
Wondering why you never mentioned the signing of local band Lord of War to Unique Leader Records and the release of their "Celestial Pestilence" album, followed by two back-to-back tours with bands like "Suffocation," etc.? https://www.facebook.com/lordofwarmetal— August 30, 2013 5:48 p.m.
If Filner falls, so rise the Kochs?
The FCC used to have laws prohibiting monopolies from owning print, television and radio monopolies in the same regional market. That changed due to billionaires' lobbyists; billionaires who quickly bought up media throughout the U.S. to promote their own political agendas, funded by infomercials that flood the airwaves. (Aren't YOU sick of paying for cable and receiving 20 minutes of programming and 2/3 advertising?!) The power is (hopefully) still with VOTERS who can use their voting power to CHANGE this tidal wave of "big brother" journalism and restore regulation and freedom of speech to individuals and independent reporters. There are efforts to "regulate" the internet, silence talk radio and buy out and close small newspapers (If you read the UT's "North County" section, you'd think news only happens about once every 3 weeks). VOTERS can voice their opinions by posting comments, blogging, cancelling subscriptions and showing up for primaries and elections.— August 19, 2013 1:09 p.m.
Oceanside Mayor Jim Wood to take on Supervisor Bill Horn in 2014
1. The article is about Jim Wood, yet this is NOT a photo of Mayor Wood. 2. The Council Majority voted Mayor Wood off regional boards only AFTER he overwhelmingly defeated Councilmember Kern for Mayor. In retaliation, Kern, Feller & Felien then passed a new ordinance stripping the Mayor of his powers of office and transferring those powers to themselves. 3. Mayor Wood's strokes were MINOR. He's out in the community every day working for the people of Oceanside.— August 1, 2013 11:41 p.m.
