No love for Michael Shannon? Or Woody?— December 14, 2011 5:10 p.m.
Movie Theatres to Encourage Texting?
I like the idea of putting all the texters and cel phone talkers in one theatre...and then light the theatre on fire, like in "Inglorious Basterds".— December 6, 2011 9:32 a.m.
Oh Le Olady Olady I Oh, It's Hardrock, and Coco, and Joe!
I also enjoy "Suzy Snowflake", especially the part where she kills a guy.— December 2, 2011 4:26 p.m.
NBC Eyes Munsters Reboot
Would you get Brad Garrett to play Herman? I'm sorry, but that's the role the man was born to play. Have you heard his impression? I understand he's looking for work as well.— November 8, 2011 10:06 a.m.
Why I Hate Spielberg #4,695: The Ferris Wheel Reversal in 1941
I've always enjoyed "1941" as well. But I know, in my heart of hearts, it's not a good film. The docu on the DVD explains the fiasco and it's wonderful.— October 28, 2011 3:52 p.m.
Michigan Woman Sues FilmDistrict Over Drive's Deceptive Trailer
"Hey, Albert Brooks wasn't funny in this! I'm suin'!"— October 10, 2011 3:58 p.m.
Short Takes: Colombiana
As a general rule, I avoid movies where the director's last name sounds like a Transformer.— August 26, 2011 9:33 a.m.
Aretha Franklin Blocks Release of Never-Before-Seen Sydney Pollack Documentary
It's a disgrace that she won't let this come out. I sure a lot of people would love to see this. She'll do a damn Snickers commercial but not let people see this??? Is it really all about the money??? Can we see the Moms Mabley pic on a double bill with "Dolemite"?— August 25, 2011 9:30 p.m.
Disney Exec Has a Word for Their Product
Indeed, Scott. The studios don't put much thought into the scripts of those franchise pics. They aren't films; they're filmed deals. Just because they make money doesn't mean they are good pictures. The people who want to see those movies will see them opening weekend but won't see them more than once nor spread the word to their friends; therefore, the huge drop off on the second weekend.— August 18, 2011 11:38 a.m.
Disney Exec Has a Word for Their Product
"Captain America" and "Apes" were both tentpole pictures, but both had great storylines and good direction. With positive word of mouth, you can make more money in the long run if your tentpole picture has good storytelling. That is why "Apes" was #1 two weeks in a row. The problem with movies like the "Pirates" and "Transformers" sequels is that they are made to be "nine-day wonders". Make the money in the opening two weekends, then watch the fall. Andy Hendrickson clearly has his head up his ass and you can guarantee his job is not secure after that little excursion.— August 17, 2011 7:34 p.m.
