Phew. No fees for SOHO

Kudos to SOHO for stopping Jacob's absurd plan. And, in spite of being our short-lived, feel-good mayor, Bob Filner showed how to fix the problem without destroying important historical features of the park. The plaza is now open fully to pedestrians and the auto traffic has been minimized and is flowing nicely. Excellent results all around! Go SOHO!

Delaware North to California: Drop dead

I thought the place was a lot more fun when Diane Powers was running things...but, I'm under the impression that the State Parks folks wanted less Mariachi Disneylandia and something more authentico. In other words, they wanted Old Town to be more of a historical location.

Quartzsite: Arizona's rock city

Quartzite is a trip! For rockhounds this is Mecca. I've been a few times and walked for days and still did not see it all. You can get fossils, minerals, and semi-precious stones for what is probably the best prices in the US. And there is lots and lots of "high quality junk" as well. A really fun event.

Women Occupy San Diego point out cop conflict

Hooray for the ladies with cajones enough to stand up to this phoney pretense called Citizens Review Board on Police Practices. Between a police chief that gives the cops body cameras and then refuses to release the content to the public, to the outright executions, beatings, assaults and sex offenses committed by the police, it's getting hard to tell who the criminals are around here. Having the city attorney on the board is such an obvious conflict of interest, it's easy to see the board is a fraud. Hey, that's life in good ol' Sandy Eggo. If you ask me, something stinks in Hooterville. Go Occupy!

Deported veterans inspired by Bernie Sanders

There is not enough information here to really tell what the whole story is; "...humanitarian parole, asylum citizenship, post-conviction relief, and so on,” leaves me wondering exactly who we are talking about here. But, my gut feeling is, if they were good enough to serve and put their lives on the line for the USA, then they should not be deported. Uncle Sam should have made the determination before giving them a gun to go kill people in the Middle East. Seems to me they were good enough to do some dirty work for us and now we would like to give them the boot. That's dirty pool.

Odds-on favorite for the most scenic hike in San Diego

A friend of mine, Wes Farmer, has worked as a volunteer/docent at Torrey Pines Reserve for many years. He just received a pin for providing 25 years of service as a docent, but has provided many more years than that working as a volunteer. He is in his eighties and helps out doing chores such as pulling weeds and doing trail maintenance and whatever else they need. Yea, they call themselves the "Wacky Weeders." I think the Reserve should name a trail after Wes. It's volunteers like him who help to keep places such as Torrey Pines, in its beautiful and natural state. With volunteer service of about 50 years, I think the guy deserves more than a pin.

Port maintains bump in Bayshore Bikeway

The Port District should build an overpass for the bikes. Trucks can drive thru and the cyclists can cruise on above.

Haggen, dogged by problems, closes

This comes as no surprise to me. I visited Haggen's once, and that was all I needed to see they sell the same produce and products as other grocers but charge nearly twice the price for the privilege of shopping there. How stupid do they think people are? I say, "Don't let the door hit you..."
