SDPD under the influence of power?

Body cameras? What good are body cameras if the Chief of Police can refuse to release the video? SDPD are totally out of control. Maybe a few blockbuster lawsuits will get their attention. Something has to be done to rein in these wannabe gestapos. Their behavior is disgraceful.

Homeless and confused in Chula Vista

I was going to raise the issue of the importance of being able to speak and write clearly, but I went back and read the clause again and I see it says, "For *residents* living on streets with established Time Limited Parking..." So, the fact that it specifically refers to residents, which urban campers are not, would tend to make the policy clear. I can see however, how the wording could cause some confusion, which brings me back to my first point.

SDSU's high cost of finding there there

I think the real plan is to turn SDSU into a "gated community." These "gates" are a way for the administration to see (and possibly screen) who is coming on campus. Can't say I blame them with all the crazies, rapists, and grabass lunatics that seem to be popping up around the colleges these days. I don't buy that the gates are simply to "improve campus identification and presence, and... visitor wayfinding and navigation," No one needs a sign to tell them they've arrived at San Diego State--San Diego State wants to know who has arrived at their gate.

Marine strike on bikers

I've hiked the section of this area that lies west of Mission Trails Park, all the way to the military warning signs. They were at least a mile and a half in. At that point, using good binoculars I could see I was downwind from a shooting range and got off the high ground pronto. There were always a few mountain bikers on the trails and because of the extreme hills and valleys, I could see why--it was a great ride. I think Mission Trails bears some responsibility here for allowing their trails to lead right to those that enter the military land, with no signage letting people know they were crossing a border of sorts. I used to go in there because it was the only place that I knew of, other than the Anza Borrego desert, where horned lizards could be found (and photographed). The military owns miles of land north of the 52. I think they should move their shooting range over there and open these trails to the public.

The Plunge is stripped to the bones

I don't get what they are trying to do here. I can appreciate the history of the plunge; I've seen the photos of the people in the old days, up on the second level watching the swimmers and the divers going off the high board. That was a nice way to spend a leisurely afternoon-- back then. Today, who wants to watch people swim in a pool? Even if they rebuild the pool with glass walls, do they honestly expect people to stand around watching swimmers the way we watch the fish and polar bears at the aquarium? I doubt, due to liability issues, they will have diving boards again, so what's to watch? They ought to just rebuild the pool and open it to the public, the way it was in its last incarnation. It's a nice alternative for those who would rather not brave the surf. As for those who like to watch, way better to go down to the beach and check out the wahinis in their Brazilian thong thingys. Now that's entertainment.

Here come the cameras, O.B.

If the cameras are installed, I wonder if they will use them like Chief Zimmerman in San Diego does with the police body cameras. That is, if the camera films someone breaking the law, the film will be shown to everyone. But if the camera films a member of the police force breaking the law, the film will not be released. I say don't let them install them, OB. They won't be used for law enforcement as they claim, but solely for prosecution of the public instead. They're just another piece of jackboot technology. I think we can all live just fine without them.

Delaware North to California: Drop dead

Yea, I went down there to see how things looked after the changeover and felt something was definitely missing. Seems the State Parks folks want the experience to be more "educational." Which is fine for the visiting school kids, but falls somewhat flat for a curious adult. I think the best thing to do there now is to go the Whaley House and see if you see the ghost.
