Is the Chargers' favorite city about to get dirtied up?

It seems to me that the Chargers believe there is no limit to the stupidity of the people of San Diego. They honestly think they can play these poor saps, their once faithful fans, for all their worth. First they flip everyone the bird as they exit for LA. When that doesn't work out, they come back with big smiles on their faces, acting as if they didn't stab anyone in the back, singing "Let bygones be bygones." They are only asking for everyone to vote to give them a big pot of money, which they don't really need, so they can have a brand new stadium. And of course, they expect it to be filled by those same saps they showed no appreciation for when the road out of town was looking so good. I say it's time to tell the Chargers to go suck eggs. There are other games being played and other teams to cheer for. I think the people of San Diego should build a world class soccer stadium. I's time for the people of San Diego to kick the Chargers balls for a change, and not play the fools they think we are. It's supposed to be the team plays for the city; not the other way around.

A prowl through Los Peñasquitos Canyon

These organizations, and the volunteers who support them are to be commended-- big time. They are trying to preserve what little is left of the open natural areas. Greater San Diego is overdeveloped and unfortunately, getting worse. These huge developments going on in the Ranchos and Carmel Valley are destroying much of the remaining natural habitat for wildlife. The conservationists, the trackers, those who assist with trail maintenance, all deserve major kudos for what they do. If it were not for them, we would all be hiking through alleys and on blacktop.

Credit card surcharges still banned by Song-Beverly

This problem is much larger than most people realize. I went to a local restaurant awhile back, and after enjoying a tasty breakfast I paid with my credit card, leaving a generous tip in cash, on the table. A day or so later, I went on line to check my bank account as I often do, and discovered the restaurant had charged an additional 15%. The charge was "pending" and had not yet gone through. I contacted my bank, Union Bank, and told them the charge was not legitimate. They told me they pay whatever the merchant submits. I asked what was the purpose of a receipt if the merchant can submit a charge for whatever they want? The bank said I could file a claim and initiate an investigation. I made it clear that the charge was in excess of what I agreed to and they should under no circumstances pay anything more. I then called the restaurant and spoke with the manager who tried to tell me it was "the computer." I made it clear if they submit a charge for anything beyond what my receipt indicates, I would file a complaint with the appropriate agencies. I waited and watched as that charge remained in the pending category. A day or two later, the charge disappeared completely. I thought I was getting a freebie as an enticement not to file any complaints, but then the charge reappeared, this time for the correct amount, and processed through as normal. I've had several conversations with the bank and am amazed that they could care less what it says on your receipt. They pay--out of your account of course--whatever charge any merchant submits, with the explanation that you can always file a claim and you will probably get your money back eventually. Am I crazy, or has the train gone off the track? I've also noticed there is now a new sentence that appears whenever I pull up my account on line, that says, "Some charges, such as gas stations and restaurants, may change." Hello? May change? Wtf is going on? Seems like basic bookkeeping has gone out the window and we now play fast and loose.

New plan for Chula Vista's west side

Visduh, I believe what they mean by going "vertical" is to actually construct something on the property as opposed to just developing the land "flat," like into a dog park or some such. As to the "no comparables" from the banks, it's their way of saying "no one has built anything there lately so it makes it hard for us to figure out how badly we can screw you." You know they are experts at the old razzle-dazzle when it comes to justifying interest rates, fees, etc..
