The search for convention center money in San Diego
fangirl, Comic-Con is a great convention for the city. But, it is one covention per year. The rest of the year that expansion and thos hotel rooms are not needed. Its a case of weighing cost vs. benefit. If private money is used in some kind of partnership or even revenue sharing that is one thing but the city cant afford millions for a once a year bump in revenues.— June 11, 2009 3:28 p.m.

We also need to get special interests out of city hall. Too many politicans rely on support from unions, developers or others that have vested interest in city hall money or benefit from city hall decisions.— June 11, 2009 12:03 p.m.
Appellate Court Says DROP Not Vested Benefit
JW, in case you are wondering, I bet no one on here wishes to put employees or retirees in the poorhouse. I think what we ask is that they negotiate a more reasonable pension and retiree healthcare, similar to private sector. I would also be hesitant to take away any existing pensions or retiree benefits but would insist on defined contribution going forward and a retirement healthcare similar to private sector, which would be closer to a COBRA plan.— June 11, 2009 10:44 a.m.

New City Hall Superfan
"I'll bet the city could find plenty of space at distressed prices today. But no, it's gotta be new and monumental. By Visduh 9:02 a.m., May 29, 2009" Exactly, there is PLENTY of available office space throughout the city. Lease rates are very good right now with great concessions. As for buying space, there are many for sale at unheard of prices compared to the last several years. Absolutely no need to build something new.— June 8, 2009 1:54 p.m.
