Photography Is Not a Crime
I can see both sides of the argument but from my experience there is a line. For example taking pics of the fountain and Balboa Park. That place is packed with kids, if someone wants to take pics of the fountain is he supposed to wait till all the kids are gone or ask every single parent? No it's a public fountain snap away. Now if the same guy is obviously taking shots of individual kids or one kid and are focused only on that kid then yeah as a Dad I'm saying something to him and I may get irate. Yes it's within his rights but at the same time we must exercise some common decency and respect for others. This goes for all our rights. Freedom of speech protects those people who protests military funerals, but I guarantee if it was my kid someone is getting punched in the face. Freedom of press protects the paparazi, but if someone is digging through my trash for a news story, someone is getting bit by my dog who may get outside without a leash. But as far as this situation I think she was well within her rights and showed common decency. It's an EVENT that she was covering as a member of the press, bringing your child into a place like this you are consenting to having their picture taken in my opinion. Hell there may even be a placard posted at the entrance stating such.— June 11, 2011 4:03 p.m.
The Clock Is Ticking
you just opened my eyes ....I will never (or at least try) to make my kids feel guilty again !!! :)— June 2, 2011 11:15 a.m.
New York Style Pizza
update: I ventured over to Long Island Mike's today. I was actually disappointed. The cheese was not greasy enough and the pizza was not floppy enough to be called NY style in my book. It was good pizza, just not the best NY style in town. I will give Bronx pizza a try but until then Luigis still number one in my book— May 24, 2011 5:49 p.m.
New York Style Pizza
You know you will get comments on this one. From a native Long Islander I have yet to try this place but I will venture there tomorrow. But the best New York style that I have had in San Diego is Luigis in Golden Hill the best pizza hands down but not quite New York style is Mazaras in South Park. Of course we will never get true New York style unless you import New York water to make it with.— May 23, 2011 5:19 p.m.
Car Thief Leaves His Wallet Behind
Now he will go to jail known as the Man-Boob Bandit. Too funny— April 26, 2011 12:23 p.m.
Wrecked People
The Haiti disaster struck me the most. I have family in Chile and friends in Japan but still Haiti seemed so much worse for those reasons you pointed out. What really infuriated me was when Pat Robertson said that Haiti deserved it because they made a pack with the devil to free themselves from French rule. Haiti is our Africa of the western hemisphere, no one really gives a damn what happens there.— April 26, 2011 12:18 p.m.
Balls in Bowls
Personally I can't stand marbles/gems in a vase. Also if someone is going to come into my condo to make it chic it better be Franck Eggelhoffer not walmart bob.— April 26, 2011 11:56 a.m.
War Paint
I think it was a good thing he didn't say anything. Saying that to a person who has been wearing the same makeup for over a decade would have been just as bad as saying "your face is horrible, have you ever thought of having plastic surgery to replace the whole thing". The women I have known have been wearing the exact same makeup and applying it the exact same way since high school, it has pretty much become an extension of their physical bodies.— March 5, 2011 11:19 a.m.
Stupid Chick's Lucky
I only have one problem with some bike riders. If you are on the road you should obey the rules of the road all the time. You don't get to jump back and forth from being considered a vehicle to a pedestrian whenever the situation suits you. You can't just expect a driver to just know when you are going to decide to just run the stop sign or jump in the crosswalk as a rolling pedestrian in order to skip a stop light or make a left turn. Also not wearing a helmet and listening to your ipod while riding on the sidewalk in the opposite direction of traffic is Stupid. There is no better word to describe it.— February 7, 2011 7:56 p.m.
Itty-Bitty Committee
Barb, It's amazing how one person's comment quickly spiralled out of control and ended up with you doing a poor job on your column. People with kids always take offense to couples who refuse to have kids or enjoy having a good time without kids around. I love your column and it's the only reason why I pick up the reader. Every week I sit at Luigis in Golden Hill, eat two slices and read your column. Then if the layout team managed to catch my attention with the front cover I may read on. Keep up the great work.— December 29, 2010 12:07 p.m.
