The Salad? The Salad — Caesar's Restaurante in TJ
I indulged in the famous salad there a couple of weeks ago and it was indeed, delicious. I've made it a few times myself at home, but somehow I can't seem to equal the hotel's version. I think I "over-anchovy" it... BTW, the remodeling of the restaurant is outstanding. Wainscotting on the ceiling, beautifully refinished bar, featuring a big, brass espresso machine, and framed historical photos on the walls add up to a very esthetic dining experience. It's truly beautiful inside. I sort of felt like I was in an elegant trattoria in North Beach in San Francisco...the kind Tommy Lasorda used to frequent whenever the Dodgers came to town...Go Giants!— February 24, 2011 8:15 a.m.
From the New World
As a jazz musician myself, I can attest to the complexity of structure in the music. Ideally, it is not repetitive. I say ideally because every jazz player will use repetitive motifs (riffs, vamps, what-have-you...musical cliches)in constructing his/her solos. The underlying structure of the chord progression (frequently predicated on some old chestnut "standard") remains essentially the same, and it is up to the soloist to expand upon whatever modality the tune calls for. All this sounds complex and cerebral, I know. Better to follow Charlie Parker's dictum: "First learn your instrument...then play your ass off..."— November 17, 2010 2:51 p.m.
