Last week they had better sound and digital projection than the AMC La Jolla screening of the same movie, doing a side-by-side comparison on consecutive days.
No to forget regular theater seats that promote respectable posture for the movie, not those faux-leather lazy lounge monstrosities that make you feel you're in Charlie Sheen's private screening room.
La Paloma's also one of the few local theaters that also regularly shows 35mm in this day ('The Big Lebowski' coming April 20th, 'Pulp Fiction' in May, and the Italian Film Fest this month as well).
I've never worked for the La Paloma, I've had some dodgy experiences there, but it's still one of my favorites. Good to see them lasting into this damndable age of cutesy dining and boutique theaters that neglect the essentials of moviegoing pleasure.

Orson Welles, restored
Sparse in means, rich in artistry. It was a tremendously fine if strange event Sunday, to see *Chimes* shown at last again, nearest how it was meant to be seen. Near enough, but funny to hear a member for the small audience remark how many showed up. How few, how few know how to be truly entertained anymore... Welles was never really *in* step with what most audiences or the hacks in charge wanted at the time. Even when promoting peas: *Director 2: Can you emphasize a bit "in"? "In July".* Welles: **Why?** That doesn't make any sense. Sorry. There's no known way of saying an English sentence in which you begin a sentence with "*in*" and emphasize it. Get me a jury and show me how you can say "*in* July" and I'll ... go down on you. That's just idiotic, if you'll forgive me by saying so." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frozen_Peas Uneasy lies the head that knows of a remote farm in Lincolnshire. http://www.sandiegoreader.com/users/photos/2016...— April 4, 2016 12:58 p.m.

The Big Parade marches through Carmel Valley
Good to hear then. I'll try to make it.— April 1, 2016 10:50 p.m.
The Big Parade marches through Carmel Valley
151 minutes? I wish. Their website says only: 2 hours 8 minutes: https://www.angelikafilmcenter.com/sandiego/fil... That would make it the cut down 1988 TCM print, not the restored 2 and a half hour version. Unless they're running it extra fast. Sadly a missed opportunity. http://www.sandiegoreader.com/users/photos/2016...— April 1, 2016 2:53 p.m.
