Mackinac Island
I grew up in Petoskey. Nice story. It's "St. Ignace" but a typo doesn't kill the story and I always called the tourists "fudgies" but they got the point. There's a lot more attractions to see and things to do in Gods Country than just Mackinac Island. In the U.P. there's Tahquamenon Falls, the 95,000 acre Seney National Wildlife Refuge, and the Iron Ore docs in Marquette. In the northern Lower you can walk Little Traverse Bay on Lake Michigan looking for the state "Petoskey" stone, hiking, boating, hunting and fishing in the summer, skiing, snowshoeing, snowmobiling and ice fishing in the winter. Fall brings the changing of the colors of the leaves and spring brings the morel mushrooms and dip netting "smelt" (a very tasty "anchovy" type fish). I live in San Diego now. Thanks for the memories...— August 26, 2013 11:38 p.m.
