Gotta love a city attorney who loses winnable cases, fails to protect the city, and spends all his time plotting to overthrow a duly elected Mayor, among other things.

Wait until they tag your wall or fence. Pathetic little boys playing with paint.

Jan Goldsmith was elected City Attorney in 2008. He's the fool responsible for the City failing to notify the insurance company on time. Goldsmith is a dim witted bungler who cost the City $30 million. If Goldsmith does not resign over this fiasco, then he should be recalled and replaced in a special election. Jan Goldsmith is an absolute disgrace to this City and he should go back to New York where he belongs!

So the City Attorney who orchestrated Filner's removal from office now says he did nothing wrong! "was not subjected to unwelcome, harassing conduct by Defendant based on her gender or sex" and that the "harassing conduct alleged by Plaintiff was not sufficiently severe or pervasive to alter the conditions of Plaintiffs employment at the City and create a hostile or abusive work environment on the basis of sex."

Her face shows no remorse or regret for her crime.

In no way do I support her or her actions, I know nothing about the facts-but come on, this is a dumb comment, usually made by a biased or interested party like the DA, to try to turn the case on anything other than facts. Stop the spin. Please.

Visduh Nov. 22, 2013 @ 7:41 p.m.

Prosecutorial discretion demands that Ms. Layon not speculate. The rest of us need not be so reticent. Once he's in custody, he'll die in the slammer. So why not flee? Anything to lose? Nothing at all. The mystery here centers around the identity of Angela McCarron, and why she would have put up her home as a guarantee for his bail. We can assume that his flight, and her forfeiture of her home, are not good news for her (whoever she is.) Then there is Herb Weston, defense attorney; may we assume that he got paid for his futile attempt at keeping McCarron out of prison? Or did Herb get stiffed in the same manner as Angela? Questions, questions.

When the cops catch up with Joe (they will), he'll have two choices. Go "peacefully" with the cops to his eternal incarceration, or try to escape. Which will it be? Or maybe he'll try a shootout with them. (The cops always win.)

That is has taken years for this case to be concluded proves the adage that "Justice delayed is justice denied". Hey Herb, proud of yourself?

jelula Nov. 13, 2013 @ 5:06 p.m.

"This information could have been buried in some other department that was primarily interested in avoiding embarrassment." Or.. in the Mayor's Office back when Sanders was in charge (look at the dates, can't blame Filner for this mess). Even if it wasn't Sanders' office that created the lengthy delay in filing with the City's insurance company, the blame can be laid at his feet because of the huge disruption caused by his Business Process Re-engineering that moved staff from here to there so that no one knew any longer who was in charge of what or who to call.

SurfPuppy619 Aug. 14, 2012 @ 4:08 p.m.

She shot her husband once, closed the bedroom door behind him, and left him there to die, no call to 911 or the police, made sure her attorney didn't notify the police until 14 hours later when she was sure he was dead.... Her children heard her kill their father, and then she hustled them out of the house while their father lay on the floor dying.

How do you know this is what happened?????? Were you there? Are you the DDA? Are you a cop who did the investigation?? HOW do you know THIS is the way it went down?????? You are obviously somehow connected in or related to this case, and I want to know why you are making these comments if you were not there or investigating them, and if you were there and investigating then I want to know why you are posting these comments on a public site when it is certainly under seal at this point in time by the PD and DA.

As mother of this mans victims, I would first like to express my OUTRAGE that the Sheriffs Dept. waited an entire week before releasing this story. A convicted bail jumping "armed and dangerous" pedophile is out there and they sat on it for a week. We all see much less serious stories reported on a daily basis, as soon as possible after they occur. Funny how this didn't get the immediate coverage that was obviously called for. But that is how things have been handled with this nightmare from the beginning. Money really talks. That's why this disgusting perverted predator has been out there a free man, undoubtedly abusing more women and children all the while. In Visdahs comment, the identity of Angela McCarron was raised. She is his mother. If only she had not had an inordinate amount of both cash and cockiness, this never would have gone on this long. I would also like to express my opinion of the inappropriateness of Prosecutor Layons' photo to be included with the update on this story. It is not about her. She really has nothing to be posing proudly for. Believe me - I know. I have suffered through watching her drag this case on and on for over 4 years. With the overwhelming amount of evidence on this man - including A CONFESSION, I really do believe that an astute graduate fresh out of law school could have won this case - THE FIRST TIME AROUND. Lets all pray that this long overdue news release was not in vain. This man should have been locked up years ago.

JustWondering Nov. 10, 2013 @ 10:22 a.m.

It's simply about communication and coordination. It's been sorely lacking in our city for years and it's no better today even with 50 million dollars spent on the City's "new" computer systems. Just think about all the times you seen money spent on new street overlays only to be torn up six months later by Water/Wastewater Dept to replace aging piping. As an "Enterprise" department Water/Wasterwater will merely pass the cost of their foul ups onto the ratepayers. When it's not your money waste ALWAYS happens.

I worked in the basement of the County Administration building on Pacific Hwy in the late 90's. Periodically we would get a blast of sewage odor thru the open windows. We were finally able to determine the source as sewer gas being vented through charcoal filters in 55 gallon drums which had never been maintained. I always thought that this must leave a bad impression on any tourists in the area.

Burwell Nov. 10, 2013 @ 1:09 p.m.

It's also disturbing that Goldsmith denied a claim from the condo owners that, had Goldsmith acted competently and timely, apparently would have been paid by the insurance company and not the city. Someone should file a complaint against Goldsmith and his lieutenants with the California Bar Association. Goldsmith and his lieutenants should lose their law licenses over this. Aguirre never would have screwed up like this. Goldsmith is not on top of things. He's not doing his job.

Emory_Kendrick Nov. 23, 2013 @ 10:29 p.m.

Talk about misleading. The whole time Gloria Allred insinuated it was about Bob Filner resigning and dear Irene just wanted what is best for the city (BS!~) Filner resigned in August and she's on the prowl. At no time did Allred publicly mention a six month job was worth nearly $1.5 million in damages. And what damages to McCormack? Her case is weak to begin with [http://media.utsandiego.com/news/documents/2013/07/22/McCormackLawsuit_2.pdf].

Bob Filner's the one who got press raped and lost employment while McCormack maintained fulltime City of San Diego employment (back in her old job per Todd Gloria's interim stint at mayor) collecting a taxpayer salary and pension in addition to her Port of San Diego benefits. San Diego Reader blogs documented Irene McCormack Jackson's lack of credibility at the height of the Filner press slaughter. Her original attorney's tweet the day Filner resigned is clear: it was a media strategy, not a legal one [http://www.sandiegoreader.com/users/p...]. This latest detail - it was about pushing Filner out to maintain status quo and getting McCormack paid for her role. This was always about money and politics while real victims of sexual harassment, men and women, lose everyday on the job.

Thank you DH for staying on top of this. Wish mainstream media was more with it.

These people make me sick! Hope McCormack fryes in court (pun intended).

monaghan Nov. 10, 2013 @ 1:41 p.m.

Aside from getting rid of incompetent City Attorney Goldsmith -- who prosecutes and fails to get a verdict against a garden-variety protesting sidewalk-chalker -- is it relevant to ask who is the developer/builder of these condos? Is this not also a reminder to value an active and vigilant homeowners' association?

CaptainObvious Nov. 16, 2013 @ 7:25 a.m.

If the app worked as intended, it would be a map showing the houses to not rob, leaving blank spaces where the sheep live.

Mercy Baron Nov. 22, 2013 @ 8:07 p.m.

I agree. I love good graffiti art, but tagging is bragging, and not cool.

FatCatSegat Oct. 18, 2013 @ 8:13 a.m.

Hmmmm, isn't the city attorney voted in by,....oop!,...us? See you at the polls racoon boy. Whomever follows Filner's roadmap, (sans groping and such) from infrastructure to medicinal marijuana gets my vote in the mayoral race. Hey Don, when is the city atty's term up?

rehftmann Oct. 18, 2013 @ 8:51 a.m.

I'm completely befuddled by the legal situation here. Filner pleads guilty to what? And Goldsmith's job was to defend him from what? What happened to all the alleged victims? What miracle of jurisprudence joined them? This is possibly the best protection from the curse of history repeating itself… no history, continuous befuddlement. (Predatory plutocrats plunder best under the 'fuddle cloud of their own making.)
