I usually agree with you monaghan...not this time! Lorena would be a disaster for our city. She cares about one person...Lorena and sometimes her children! No one is being a Scrooge, we are just calling this poser out on what is clearly Lorena being her typical opportunist self promoting Lorena. Those of us who have worked in this city and county for those less fortunate than the rest of us i.e. homeless folks, mentally ill homeless and children who have asthma from breathing the crap that the shipyards spew into Barrio Logan KNOW that Lorena has done NOTHING to help. Her most recent legislation helps cheerleaders, which is fine, but certainly not a priority in her district. Just ask the constituents. No one I know would ever take funding, ever, from a company that funded the ending of the Barrio Logan collaborative community plan update. (which took more than 5 years to produce) Yes, monaghan, Lorena wants to run for the U.S. Senate or for Governor...but like my dad use to say...she thinks her sh** does not stink...but her farts give her away.

Let me guess......Retired, with nothing else to do but except stop progress? You must hate how Park Blvd. in University Heights is so much more vibrant these days because of folks investing in the neighborhood. You on the other hand want it all to yourself.

Talk about turkeys! Thankful you mentioned Lorena Gonzalez's calculating boy-toy getting $25,000+ from the Democratic Party in his run for County Supervisor. It's a sharp reminder never to give the Democratic Party's online fundraising ActBlue a dime until they reform their big-money operation that is merely a clone of the GOP model.

Nov. 24, 2017

Sounds to me like you know how the San Diego County Democratic Central Committee works, ICare. It is venal and close to corrupt -- though they are saved by their ever-changing by-laws and the selfish energy of Lorena Gonzalez who makes the trains run on time -- that is, in favor of her passive ideology-free husband and her own power-agenda.

Instead of trying to reinstate himself into a flip flopping politician, maybe Fletcher should try being a responsible father to his children.

May 18, 2018

Whether it’s a made up job at Qualcomm because Irwin Jacobs ultimately wanted to “own” a politician, or a made up “professorship” at UCSD because the UC system wanted influence over a politician, both are instances where the ultimate end was manipulating a bought politician.

Why would anyone EVER vote for this guy? He flip flops around more than a fish out of water. He has been bought more times than a working girl on El Cajon Blvd. When things didn’t go his way as a Republican, not only did he flip, not once, but twice. Then he divorced his conservative connected wife. I’m just wondering, is there an once of integrity left in Fletcher?

May 18, 2018

Since it appears as if his sinecure at Qualcomm is history, and he's essentially unemployed now, his appeal of those payments is appropriate. 8K a month of spousal and child support is a lotta dough, guys, especially if he has no income. But this sounds as if he's counting on landing that District 4 supervisorial seat, and I doubt that he should count that chicken before it's hatched. There is some real competition for the seat. I don't think being married now to Lovely Lorena is going to pull that election out of the fire. It is good to think that all that Jacobs money and support will not sway the voters. We shall soon see.

May 18, 2018

"Nonetheless, I am willing to have my child support and spousal support obligations calculated now on that imputed income. If I am unsuccessful in obtaining this position, I am confident that I will find other employment at a comparable salary."

Now that’s either the biggest bulls**t statement ever made or Fletcher really believes he’s entitled to the elected position. If he really believes this, take the 200k job now, (salary + benefits) and support your kids.

About the only thing missing here is a description of handsome Nathan Fletcher's stunning chameleon-like personal qualities in service to personal advancement. I guess neither he nor his very Republican wife could rationalize their marital arrangement anymore.

Fletcher strategically bailed from his good job in the office of Congressman Randy "Duke" Cunningham just three months before the GOP stalwart was scandalously convicted and jailed for selling votes for bribes. Later, as a candidate in the local mayor's race and on a rare occasion when Fletcher was asked about Cunningham by fawning Jacobs-financed local news outlets, he disavowed his former boss, claiming that he "hardly knew" him.

In two terms as a Republican state assemblyman from a conservative district in the post 9/11 era, Fletcher frequently traded on his military service as a Marine in the National Guard and often emphasized in speeches the nation's need for ever-increasing "security" at the borders and at home. Later on, he headed an ACLU-sponsored effort to secure justice for detained undocumented border-crossers.

In the mayoral campaign, Fletcher repeatedly used the willing parents of a murdered teenager from Poway to endorse him in television ads. But Fletcher was denied the endorsement of the County Republican Party in the Primary, so he reflected over a weekend and then became a registered Independent. Nathan and Mindy announced the shift in a video made from their home. But the new Party affiliation failed to secure him a run-off spot and the mayoral contest went to Carl deMaio and Bob Filner.

Within five months of the election of Democratic Mayor Bob Filner, Fletcher re-affiliated himself once again -- this time as a Democrat -- with the warm welcome of County Democratic chair Francine Busby, the attention of Dem money bundler Christine Forester and new jobs at both Qualcomm and UCSD, presumably engineered by Fletcher patron and billionaire Democrat Irwin Jacobs who founded the company and is philanthropist to the university.

Ugh. I think he married her to further his political career. Maybe she can float another bill in Sacramento to not tax the too short wedding dresses of older brides getting married to ambitious politicos who have no shame?

Jan. 4, 2017

A “couple” of corrupt sleazy politicians. Nothing to see here, move along. Another pair who want line their pockets with campaign cash and life long employment doing actually nothing, but taking credit for everything.

May 8, 2018

Follow the money and you will see who owns and operates the politician no matter their party.

Washington DC's Swamp Has nothing on San Diego's Swamp

Here Play to Play is the rule of the day Closet REP.'s running as Progressive DEM.s Are selling out SD as fast as they can for BIG $

May 9, 2018

It is clear Fletcher is owned by fat cats and corporations. His voting record from his 4 years in Sacramento shows he is in the pocket of his big donors.

May 11, 2018

They both have a long history of corruption so this is not surprising at all.

May 11, 2018

We don' t need these two clowns in elected office. Money grabbers who line their own pockets.

May 15, 2018

Unseemly for Gonzalez-Fletcher to predicate his expensive child support on winning a June Primary election for Supervisor. Also maybe a turnoff for GOP, Independent and Democratic voters. Nobody likes a guy with that kind of hubris, even if they can swallow the political party flip-flopping. Thanks to Matt Potter for answering my question from a few weeks ago about whether Gonzalez-Fletcher still works for Qualcomm. Bummer for him that he does not.

May 19, 2018

Yes, he's been full of it since he entered politics. Looking at the situation and superficial appearances, if I had to make the choice he made, I'd go with Mindy rather than "Lovely" Lorena. His flip-flopping might have been the basic reason for the failure of his marriage.

We can only wonder why the Jacobs family doesn't just put him on their personal payroll, sort of like a butler, and pay him a fat salary for doing nothing. The answer is obvious: if he can't deliver politically they don't know him.

May 19, 2018

If Lorena can't pull her new-Dem husband Nathan into a Supervisor's spot with all her cash, clout and help from grateful lobbyists, what is going to happen to the guy? What will happen to her if he loses yet again?
