This just couldn't be! Cartmill has assured everyone that his problem came from asking for money for a charitable organization. Besides the Har brothers got medicine didn't they. This couldn't be a conflict of interest better known as a shake down. Wasn't it Har that couldn't finish their work because they under bid the contract because they didn't see the shoddy work done from Prop BB. Missing electrical conduits etc. They couldn't do the job without a huge change order. Maybe someone remembers the story. Har couldn't afford the cost of wining and dining the board. The Har brothers thought it was an expense that would get them in the door. Wrong boys once they eat from the trough your on the hook forever. Jim should have told you being the good man that he is. Loreto's testimony is a real eye opener.

dbdriver June 7, 2013 @ 7:40 a.m.

I haven't seen the dollar amounts for all the bids, so I don't know how much difference between the winning bid vs the others. Did any of the bids take missing conduits and shoddy previous work into account? Would ANY of the other bidders have had to have large change orders as well? Companies I have worked for would have included in assumptions in their quote that existing wiring or other conditions would not be included.

Susan Luzzaro June 7, 2013 @ 7:38 a.m.

The Romero brothers are cooperating witnesses. It is a tough world, but I believe it is their obligation--in fact all people's obligation--to tell the grand jury the truth.

anniej June 7, 2013 @ 5:10 p.m.

Just received a telecon, apparently a couple of parents upset that John Mccann is speaking at an elementary graduation hung LARGE posters over a couple of overpasses one on 805 one on the 5, north and south. The posters depict John Mccann with a bozo nose and hair - large work JOKE printed.

Tell me Mccann did not really worm his way into an elementary ceremony.

I volunteered for future protests.

anniej June 7, 2013 @ 4:33 p.m.

Mr. Castaneda: Not sure what grade of beef you are use to consuming, but I believe the Grand Jury testimony is FILET MINON.

With all due respect, IF, a person of your stature is of the belief that this is all about nothing, then truly the South Bay is far worse than I thought.

My words, "with all due respect" - I meant those words, I was not being sarcastic.

anniej June 7, 2013 @ 11:53 a.m.

teachersrock - the district employee is one of Brands closest s friends. He does a lot of Brands bidding. Problem is the sign was on private property and the man had allegedly been paid to host the sign.

No doubt Brands blood pressure soared as he walked over to open his office blinds, and there before him stood JAIME MERCADO for SUHSD. School board.

Jaime Mercado would not even accept a paid for cup of coffee - Jim Cartmill, John Mccann, Arlie Ricasa and Pearl Quinones - wanted ALL AND MORE, PAID FOR OF COURSE!!!!!!

oskidoll June 11, 2013 @ 11:09 a.m.

Political statements/Signage on personal property is protected by the First Amendment. I think it can be as big as the entire garage.

Jmbrickley June 10, 2013 @ 10:59 p.m.

Because John McCann is not above doing anything that may garner himself a little bit of recognition.

Jmbrickley June 10, 2013 @ 11:11 p.m.

timtim... one thing you need to get into that thin skin of yours. John McCann is done in this town. Done! Finis! The End! Caput! He is washed up as a viable candidate for anything that requires a public vote. Toast! If this GJ testimony doesn't sink his boat, then the public will eviscerate him in any election he runs in. He is everything that is wrong with Sweetwater and a whole lot more caca. He needs to pack it in. He is done, washed up, tossed out like yesterday's trash. So move along little man. Your horse has left the barn.

Jmbrickley June 10, 2013 @ 11:13 p.m.

go to bed John, it's over. You have had yer day and that was so yesterday, it's laughable.

oskidoll June 12, 2013 @ 11:56 a.m.

McCann is a bully and would-be despot. Best to keep him away from any authority and/or public money. See how desperate he is! The more desperate he becomes, the more out of control. Implosion is likely.

anniej June 19, 2013 @ 9:39 a.m.

Jaime Mercado for school board in 2014 - the former board member who refused to accept even a free cup of coffee paid for by a vendor.

angrybirds June 19, 2013 @ 9:41 a.m.

Mr. McCann can you spell L O S E R!!!!!!! Your really need to find your way home from the yellow brick road and stop pausing in the poppy fields for a nap. Your hallucinations are getting the best of you. I am gone for one meeting and look what i freaking miss. Holy shit this guy is freakin bonkers. He walks out on a safety presentation because someone took his pretty little sign. BOOOOO HOOOOO stop winning and put on your big boy underwear.

I thought he was a war hero. When he put the signs up he should have camped out in the trenches to defend them. Your such a wuss you make our guys in uniform embarrassed every time you give one of your war stories at graduations.

Go away and crawl up into a fox hole you are an idiot!!!! BTW I almost busted a gut when I read all of the people that sat there and watched you have another melt down. Bet you didnt know that they were there. Them public officials dont like to see idoits hold office. I wonder how you are going to do damage control on this one. Are you going to call and cry and say the public is such bullies booo hooo.

Mr. Cartmill yet another meeting you can't control. How could you let this idiot call the police you have a board member out of control. Ms. Ricasa i got to agree with anniej where was one of your stupid ass speeches now.

There is no way i am going to miss another meeting..........

teachersrock June 18, 2013 @ 10:18 p.m.

What a DB!!!! Wasting Chula Vista's tax payers resources for a stupid sign!!! He's a coward and a bully. He's a coward for having the police do his dirty work and a bully for taking it to that level. Why would the city of Chula Vista want someone like that in charge?
What does this say to his character? McCann's ego is out of control, where's your compassion? Do you not see how outraged the community is over the boards behavior? Can you not put aside your precious ego and let something trivial go? No you had to call your mommy (CVPD) and have them take care of it for you. Is this how you will waste tax payers money if you ever make it in to city hall? I fear for repercussions from you Mr. McCann because of you treated those people. May GOD have mercy on the city of Chula Vista and the employees of SUHSD. LOSER, or should I say POOR LOSER? P.S. bravo to the folks that spoke their minds about the school board and how disrespectful they are to the Sweetwater community.

anniej June 18, 2013 @ 10:55 p.m.

Mr. Mccann, as a previous City Council member is well aware of the dangers that Chula Vista police officers face each and every second they are on the job. Why, would he, of all people, choose to USE them? Mccann was advised where he could pick the sign up at, it was Maxwell street. On top of using the police he also used city personnel, when they were forced to drive around and pick up his illegally placed signs on Main Street, Olympic Parkway, and near Hilltop High just to name a few. But the real question is WHY? WHY DID JOHN MCCANN PUT 3 YEAR OLD CAMPAIGN SIGNS OUT TO BEGIN WITH? My opinion, name recognition; but here are the facts, we know who he is and we are more than aware of all that he has failed to do and WE WANT HIM GONE! The students and taxpayers of the South Bay want representation by those who understand the meaning of integrity and are able to lead in a dignified professional manner.

How embarrassing that other REAL public officials had to witness what we, the community, endure each and every month. Perhaps now, finally the State will step in and bring this three ring circus to an end.

Let us consider the fact that while Mccann was stomping around whining about a $2.50 sign Mr. Calhoun was doing a presentation on student safety followed by a budget presentation by Dr. Alt. Is there now any argument that perhaps Mccann has his priorities mixed up?

Where pray tell was Ms. Ricasa with one of her now infamous respect speeches. IF Mccann truly was in control of his emotions or if the district business at hand were a priority he would have had his booty in that chair paying attention to the business at hand. Mccann, it is time to hang up your boring speeches and your political hat - turn out the lights, the party is over. We want a real community servant, not a temper throwing brat sitting at the dais.

eastlaker June 18, 2013 @ 10:56 p.m.

Petty. Behavior that is not even adolescent...yet again McCann demonstrates poor judgment. This individual simply does not know how to act in a dignified manner. It seems he must resort to threats of higher authority being on his side--fairly typical compensatory behavior, and not indicative of any insight into himself, others or how the public views him.

Perspective? What's that to McCann, because he is still the center of his own universe, pre-school mentality personified.

Of course, this is just the side-show of the circus of Sweetwater. The light distraction welcomed by Fast Eddy, the ringmaster, because this allows Eddy's smoke and mirror act to gain momentum. Eddy is hoping the public never really figures out what is going on. Sorry to disappoint, but we have over 3000 pages of testimony, and that provides this community with a clear vision of what has been going on here.

Ed Brand and his rubber-stamp, Loyal Voting Block board are not to be trusted. As has been said before, the public needs to watch carefully, needs to hold 'feet to the fire', needs to crack down on all the unethical behavior that has been going on. The intolerable behavior will not be tolerated.

angrybirds July 1, 2013 @ 10:50 a.m.

Just had the best laugh of my life. I read the letters to the editor for the Star News and saw 3 people supporting mccann. What a freaking joke. Maybe they should go to one of these meetings to see what a dweeb he is. I am still laughing about their comments. Everyone on this blog should send letters to the editor of the Star News about this last melt down he had among all the others,

angrybirds Aug. 16, 2013 @ 11:07 a.m.

Oh Fast Eddy better pull up them knickers dude you got caught with your pants down. You are screwing the kids you say you care so much about. You are not in this for the kids you are in it because you are going to get some kind of payoff. How much cut did you offer the Mayor of NC and that Reynoso chick? Hmmmm inquiring minds want to know. Will the planning commission do the right thing? Hmmmm inquiring minds want to know. Will they be bulldozed by Fast Eddy and his slick talking? Will they do the right things or slide into the same pit as SUHSD?

BTW Fast Eddy get your board member mccann off the airwaves he really isnt that important for people to know even when he takes a bathroom break. What about the other dude? Has he said I am sorry that I caused the accident? Cut it out already enough is enough. BTW if SUHSD is his only job to get back too I wonder what he does with the other 30 days of the month.

angrybirds Aug. 16, 2013 @ 11:23 a.m.

see the dirt pit is getting bigger and bigger. skeletons are starting to come out....Reynoso you sure you want to jump into the snake pit with fast eddy?

oldchulares Aug. 16, 2013 @ 11:05 a.m.
