Bistro fans will struggle to choose between the recognizable standards filling the menu: duck confit, coq au vin, steak tartare, onion soup gratinee, moules frites, escargot, etc. It’s an endless parade of French-inspired fast casual. Overall, this is a good thing, but Et Voilà struggles to find its footing in the execution. Some too-sweet sauces and confusing side dishes sully what could be a rock solid concept, if only the kitchen streamlined things and dispensed with the perception that Americans require elaborate details and extravagance to be impressed.

Still, not a bad bet considering the courteous staff, lack of ostentation, decent (albeit short) wine list, and opportunity to exercise discretion in ordering (i.e. keep it simple, and don’t skip the onion soup).
