Kit passed away on January 7, 2017 at Scripps Green Hospital, with her family by her side. Kit was born in Pensacola, FL, the only child of Frank and Sheila Glendinning. The family moved to La Jolla in 1958, where she graduated from La Jolla High in 1968, then continued onto the University of Colorado, graduating in 1972. Returning home, she met Navy Pilot, Stephen Shoemaker and they were married in 1973. Moving to the Granite Hills area of East County, she quickly settled into a role she treasured as a stay at home mom. Kit spent the next two decades supporting her daughters' love for horse shows and her son's baseball. She was a volunteer extraordinaire, and was recognized for her efforts with the Volunteer of the Year' award from the County of San Diego in 1989. Kit was an avid reader, a gourmet cook and a talented gardener, especially with her beloved roses. Her other hobbies included sewing and crocheting. Most of all, Kit relished being "Nana" to her grandchildren. Kit is survived by her husband of 43 years, Steve, and her children, Stacy Sarkela, Stephanie Silber, Scott Shoemaker and her 6 grandchildren. -
