Seals hook up with Beaver

Beavers and Seals together at last.

“Partnering with the Seals was a natural fit for us, as their commitment to the local community echoes our own mission statement and ties to our San Diego roots,” explains Marc Truex, VP of Sales and Marketing at Belching Beaver. “Both of our organizations are focused on providing memorable experiences and ‘Dam Good Times’ for our fans. We agreed that the best way to bring a shared experience between both of our families was to collaborate on a new beer that was perfect to pair with the high-octane rush of live box lacrosse.”

The Seals were equally enthusiastic about the partnership, says Seals President and CEO Paul Speaker. “We’d been looking for an opportunity to celebrate our incredible fans and pour their passion for the Seals into their very own locally crafted brew. It was important for us to partner with a local craft brewery that clearly understood what the San Diego Seals and our fans valued and stood for, and after much research and taste testing, Belching Beaver really stood out to us. Salty’s Escape was the clear winner.”

Although no one from the Seals was involved in selecting the style or ingredients of Salty’s Escape, there was an effort by the people at Belching Beaver to make sure the final product aligned with the Seals brand and the on-field product. Speaker continues, “Their brewing team attended several of our games at Pechanga Arena to really get a feel for the energy in the arena and the passion of our fans, and they crafted a brew that really embodied the game-day experience.”

Named after the Seals’ mascot, Salty’s Escape is a Mexican-Style cerveza brewed with corn and puffed Jasmine rice, lending it a light body and a mild biscuit flavor. At 4.8%, this light-bodied beer is ideal for casually sipping throughout a game without getting too much of a buzz.

Previously, the Seals had partnerships with local breweries Coronado Brewing Company and Kings and Convicts. While those breweries would host viewing parties and occasionally offer a beer on special at Seals games, neither went as far as brewing a special beer just for Seals fans.

Speaker describes Seals games as raucous events that needed their own beer. “Our fans come to Pechanga Arena and they like to have fun. They like rock and roll, dive bars, and a good beer with friends. Our games have a high-energy, action-packed party atmosphere. That environment goes perfectly with a few cold beers, and Salty’s Escape really embodies that.” An easy drinking beer — not unlike the Mexican beers often found in coolers at house parties and incognito at the beach — Salty’s Escape makes a good pairing for San Diego’s box lacrosse franchise.

Salty’s Escape is the five-dollar beer special at San Diego Seals home games at Pechanga Arena, and is also available at Belching Beaver tasting rooms. Six-packs of the cans are also for sale at local liquor stores and can be ordered on Belching Beaver’s website.
