The Church and the Afghan Whigs bring their dreamy pop sound to the Observatory North Park to promote their 27th album.


Fronted by Australian singer-songwriter and bassist Steven John Kilbey, The Church formed in 1980 and became known for dreamy pop hits such as “Under the Milky Way." Their 27th album was released earlier this year, Eros Zeta and the Perfumed Guitars. Co-headliners The Afghan Whigs scored their biggest hits like “Gentlemen" from 1986 through the early 2000s.

Meet puppies, firemen, and enjoy ice cream while exploring the fire station, snapping selfies, and hanging out with Yara, California’s first therapy dog for firefighters. Catch celebrity dog groomer Gabriel Feitosa make-over shelter pups, and treat your own furry friend to a free dog wash from Camp Run a Mutt.

Participants will be sworn in as part of the ship crew, trained how to navigate, sword fight, bail water from a sinking ship, escape from the King’s Jail, swab the deck and other pirate skills.


Presented by San Diego Pirate Adventures, this event turns the San Diego waterfront into an interactive show that puts visitors right in the middle of the pirate action. Participants will be sworn in as part of the ship crew, trained how to navigate, sword fight, bail water from a sinking ship, escape from the King’s Jail, swab the deck and other pirate skills.
