George Geary gives a presentation on the history of California-born businesses and sells a few books.


Culinary Historians of San Diego will host a presentation by George Geary, an award-winning chef, author, and educator. A&W Root Beer, Foster’s Freeze, IHOP, Der Wienerschnitzel, See’s Candy, and Jack in the Box all have their roots in California. But what are their origin stories? What made them famous? And for the few who are no longer around, what happened to them?

When: Saturday, September 16, 10:30 am

Vista Viking Festival

California’s Premiere Viking and Nordic Heritage Event, is moving to a new location which is twice the size and more fitting for Odin.


Enjoy Viking villages and re-enactors, vendors, food, sports, combat, story-telling, beard competition, log tossing, a weapons range, and blacksmithing. Entertainment will include Damekor Choir, Silk Button Butchers, Blindfold Monks, and Highland Way.

When: Saturday, September 16, 10 am to 8 pm and Sunday, September 17, 10 am to 6 pm

Where: Antique Gas and Steam Engine Museum, 2040 N. Santa Fe Avenue, Vista. vistavikingfestival.com
