Staring At The Sun Album Release

The Casbah hosts the album release party for the 13th volume of Staring at the Sun, a double-CD of local San Diego artists.

Sporting cover art by San Diego Comic-Con co-founder Scott Shaw, volume 13 of the local music compilation Staring at the Sun will make its debut. The two-CD set of around 50 acts will be celebrated with a release party hosted by Hairy Scary Spice (Spice Pistols) and Bart Mendoza (Manual Scan). Performers from the album are Nathan Raney and Evening’s Empire. The Tourmaliners will play in the Razzmatazz Room.

The world’s largest social networking platform for craft beer enthusiasts is heading to Petco Park to bring you the Untappd Beer Festival.

Chat with brewers and listen to live music. Untappd at home tickets available: ten beers from breweries Abnormal Beer Co., North Park Beer Co., Parish Brewing Co., and Untitled Art delivered to your home.

When: Friday, October 1, 5:30 pm to 10 pm; Saturday October 2, 11 am to 3:30 pm and 5:30 pm to 10 pm

Mdou Moctar

Music Box welcomes Mdou Moctar, a Tuareg songwriter and musician based in Agadez, Niger who performs modern adaptations of Tuareg guitar music.

35 year-old Tuareg songwriter and musician Mdou Moctar uses guitars and synthesizers to adapt modern versions of Tuareg music. After first making his mark by circulating songs within a trading network of cellphones and memory cards in West Africa, some of which later appeared on a physical compilation of cellphone music, he began releasing a series of increasingly successful albums, like this year’s Afrique Victime. The bill includes TALsounds.
