Glorious

Glorious! A sparkling comedy based on the true story of the astronomical success of the worst singer in the world opens the Point Loma Playhouses’ new season.

The performer whom everyone wanted to see in New York in the 1940s was Florence Foster Jenkins, an enthusiastic soprano whose pitch was far from perfect. Known as “the first lady of the sliding scale”, she warbled and screeched her way through the evening to an audience who mostly fell about with laughter. The play spins from Florence’s charity recitals and extravagant balls, through to her bizarre recording sessions and ultimate triumph at Carnegie Hall.

When: Friday, September 17 through Saturday, October 9, 8 pm to 10 pm

Where: Point Loma Playhouse, 3035 Talbot Street, Point Loma. pointlomaplayhouse.com

Kiss And David Lee Roth

While KISS have a habit of launching a farewell tour every half decade or so, they swear that their End of the Road trek really is their last one ever.

Half of the original Kiss lineup, Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley, is putting on the makeup and high heels for their farewell tour. The duo has been backed since 2002 by their former guitarist’s equipment tech Tommy Thayer and a drummer who played with the band sans makeup in the 90s and donned Peter Criss’ costume in 2001, Eric Singer.

When: Saturday, September 25, 7:30 pm

Where: North Island Credit Union Amphitheatre, 2050 Entertainment Circle, Chula Vista. livenation.com
