Neil Diamond’s Coronavirus Parody

Revised lyrics include “Hands, washing hands, reaching out, don’t touch me, I won’t touch you!”

“I know we’re going through a rough time right now, but I love you, and I think maybe if we sing together, well, we’ll just feel a little bit better,” says 79-year-old Neil Diamond of his Center For Disease Control-approved video, “Give It a Try, OK?” a parody of his classic 1969 radio hit “Sweet Caroline.” Crooned in a fireside promo, accompanied by a fidgety dog who seems incapable of maintaining a social distance from the camera lens, revised lyrics include “Hands, washing hands, reaching out, don’t touch me, I won’t touch you!” At this writing, the video posted Saturday, March 21 on Twitter had racked up around 140,000 likes and 53,000 retweets, in just over two days online.

In addition, LeMaster is posting quarantine-themed videos of himself preparing specialty food dishes, and existing performance footage of ensembles such as the SDMT Big Band, whose annual fundraising concert has been placed on hold until live audience performances can again be scheduled.
