La Rumorosa Rock Art Along The Border
This presentation will show and describe new patterns in the rock art of the most geographically dominant rock art style of the Borderlands wilderness.
Live on Facebook: The Borderlands wilderness rock art contains three origins – trance imagery, archaeoastronomy (a number of verified solstice sites) and cosmology or ceremony in this survey of Kumeyaay and related artwork in Southern California. Don Liponi, Ph.D. has studied rock art for the past 50 years. He realized that there was a huge vacuum in Kumeyaay-Patayan archaeology and rock art right in his own neighborhood: Southern California, Southwestern Arizona, and northern Baja. He organized more than 50 professionals, Native Americans, and avocationalists to recover the rock art of these “lost cultures.”
When: Friday, September 4, 7 pm to 8:30 pm
