Thanks to Sugaroo! Music, you’ll be able to hear the Stereotypes’ 2002 song “Redhead” in Universal Pictures’ A Dog’s Journey when it opens in theaters this weekend. “I recorded ‘Redhead’ 17 years ago at Earthling with John Finkbiner and William Skoff in one evening,” recalls guitarist and Earthling Studios operator Mike Kamoo. “I distinctly remember playing Dylan Martinez’s [Static Halo, Rookie Card] guitar for this track. Out of 18-plus releases, it’s the only recording that uses a Les Paul.”

A new version of “Redhead” remastered by Paul Abbott at ZenMastering is now available online. It’s their first Hollywood film placement, though their music has previously been heard in TV shows such as Kyle XY, Suits, and the Knight Rider revival, as well as ads for Coleman camping gear, E-Harmony, and Orville Redenbacher popcorn.

Occasional Blink 182 member Tom DeLonge has relaunched his sci-fi rock band Angels & Airwaves with their first new song in three years, “Rebel Girl,” said to be from an upcoming album and feature film project. “‘Rebel Girl’ is a space-age love song that combines my enduring obsession for new wave, pop punk, and anthemic rock and roll music,” says DeLonge. “As some of you might’ve heard, I recently took a brief minute to start up an aerospace company, so you never know: I may play this song from a satellite deep in space, beamed toward everyone’s house viciously on repeat.” Recently signed to Rise Records, home of Mayday Parade and ISSUES, A&A’s music will no longer be released through DeLonge’s To the Stars Academy of Arts & Science. Their first live dates in seven years include a two-night stand at downtown’s House of Blues on October 5 and 6.

Glory, the 60s-70s hard rock band with members of Iron Butterfly (drummer Jack Pinney), the Beat Farmers (guitarist Jerry Raney), and Bratz (guitarist Jack Butler), will reunite with all three players at Winstons on November 3. According to Raney, “We may be able to get Mike Millsap to come and sing a couple. It’s hard to get him out. He was our lead singer in the early days. I’m hoping to have Preacher Patterson on bongos and percussion.”

Millsap’s appearance at a 2010 Glory reunion was his first performance in around 20 years. Glory gigged at venues such as Starlight Bowl in Balboa Park, opened locally for Steely Dan and ZZ Top, and were reportedly the first local band to play both the Belly Up and San Diego Stadium. Rhythm guitarist Mike Berneathy passed away last October.

Slightly Stoopid’s Mexican Concert Vacation series Closer to the Sun runs December 5 through 9 at the Hard Rock Hotel Riviera Maya, featuring fellow locals Stick Figure and Tribal Seeds, as well as Dirty Heads, SOJA, Stephen Marley, Toots & the Maytals, Fortunate Youth, and Don Carlos with the Soul Syndicate Band.

Proceeds from Linda Perry & Friends: A Night at the Grammy Museum benefit gala (June 29) paying tribute to the songwriter will provide support for the Museum Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to music education and preservation initiatives. Perry has written and produced for Christina Aguilera, Juliette Lewis, Kelly Osbourne, Courtney Love, Pink, Gwen Stefani, and others.

Flogging Molly will share the billing for Social Distortion’s first co-headlining tour since 1992, taking the Celtic rockers across North America with the Devil Makes Three and Le Butcherettes, opening August 13 in Dallas, TX and concluding September 29 in Phoenix, AZ.

Anthony Smith’s new two-disc set Retrosonik: Songs From a Lighter Planet is a 1980s meets modern jazz, bi-coastal project featuring vocalists Rebecca Jade, Leonard Patton, Sacha Boutros, and Laura Angyal, plus Carlos Cuevas (co-producer) and several all-star instrumentalists in NYC and southern California.
