Rainy day ensemble from Target and Ragstock keeps Veronica warm and dry

Calm, cozy, and collected

Veronica defies the rain gods

Seems as though not everyone was prepared for the rain this season. I’ve seen a lot of sunny-day flip flops and tank tops being worn in defiance of the weather gods. I don’t like it any more than they do, but maybe it’s best to just embrace the season, to find the fair in not-so-fair weather?

Walking the wet sidewalks of South Park, I spotted a girl who looked like she’d done this before. I stopped to chat with Veronica, a 27-year-old special education teacher originally from Minnesota. Wondering how San Diego measured up right about then, I asked how she was liking the weather. She laughed. “We can do better. But the rain is better than snow,” she assured me.

Just $30 at Target!

On this dreary day, I caught Veronica fresh from taking the GRE. Yet you wouldn’t have known it, given how calm, cozy, and collected she looked in her rainy weather ensemble. She kept warm and dry in an ever-trendy military green anorak, $30 from Ragstock, which complemented the color of her sleek strawberry-red ponytail. Underneath the armor she wore a soft, draping, grey knit sweater top. To complete the look, she slipped a pair of matte black rain boots, $30 from Target, over classic black leggings.

“I like to wear leggings or jeans mostly. And something cozy underneath, so usually pretty baggy shirts.” She’s taken to tucking in the front of her shirts, so that she can wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothes and still maintain a feminine look.

“I’ve got my rain boots ready to go! I don’t get to wear them very often, so it’s kind of nice that I get to.”
