Adam Ant

Adam Ant

Back when Adam and the Ants first hit MTV with videos such as “Goody Two Shoes,” you could see that the charismatic singer’s so-called Ant-music had more going for it than pirate getups and vaudeville dancing. Few new wave bands dared make percussion a lead instrument, an acoustic affectation that now-solo bandleader Adam Ant has maintained for the unexpected comeback he launched in 2013 with his self-released Adam Ant is the Blueback Hussar in Marrying the Gunner’s Daughter. Nobody, including Ant, seemed to expect the homemade album to sell as well as his previous major label release, and subsequent U.S. tours have found him playing increasingly larger stages, most recently with his Anthems: The Singles tour.
