A bad-ass honey badger
Documentary Discussions: The Honey Badger
“This is the honey badger. Watch it run in slow motion. It’s pretty bad ass.” With those words (Randall’s narration over a PBS documentary) an internet sensation was born, with over 84 million views on YouTube to date. As we now know, the honey badger is one of the most fearless animals in the world, renowned for its ability to confront grown lions and shrug off stinging bees, scorpions, and snakes. In Honey Badgers: Masters of Mayhem we follow a team of researchers in South Africa, searching for the truth behind the honey badger. Documentary Discussions is a new recurring program at the La Jolla/Riford Library featuring a documentary viewing followed by a discussion.

Last Waltz with Mrs. Henry and Friends
The final performance of Bob Dylan’s onetime backing group, the Band, was chronicled in what many consider to be one of the best concert movies ever filmed, The Last Waltz. Singer/guitarist Daniel Cervantes and his folky rock band Mrs. Henry will recreate much of that performance at the Belly Up on Sunday with a roster of local players taking on roles from the original concert (Bob Dylan, Ringo Starr, Van Morrison, Joni Mitchell). Slated to appear are members of the Schizophonics, Trouble in the Wind, Nervous Wreckords, Sure Fire Soul Ensemble, the Routine, and Taken by Canadians.
