My absolute favorite place to hang out

What Bonnie Wright is all about

This year, music maven Bonnie Wright celebrates 20 years of her Fresh Sound series.

New-music concert promoter Bonnie Wright sees many positive changes in the local scene. “It’s expanding in ways that I like,” says Wright. “The Symphony, the Opera, and the La Jolla Music Society are all doing more contemporary stuff, which is what I’m all about. That concert hall at UCSD” — Conrad Prebys Music Center — is definitely the best in San Diego and Symphony Hall is okay, too. I used to go there back in the ’50s when it was a movie theater.”

Wright keeps a busy evening schedule. “A night at home is boring to me,” she confides. “When I’m not working on my series, I like to go out a lot — mostly to concerts or the theater — I like to keep active.”

Her ties to San Diego run deep. “I was raised in Point Loma — and I love Balboa Park. I’ve been going there all of my life. Now I live in Mission Hills and I’m taken by the history of my neighborhood — the old Craftsman homes. It’s a beautiful place for long walks and there’s always something happening.

“Bread & Cie in Hillcrest is my absolute favorite place to hang out and eat and stuff. I go there several times a week, meeting people socially and to conduct business. The Patio on Goldfinch and the Farmer’s Bottega are also right up the street. The whole neighborhood is solid and unpretentious.”
