The Dental Board of California confirmed yesterday that it has opened an investigation of La Jolla Family Dentistry.

The two top executives of the dental office, Dr. Eric Osmolinski and Dr. Jana Osmolinski, a married couple, had their licenses temporarily suspended in Pennsylvania in November. Pennsylvania's Bureau of Professional and Occupational Affairs confirmed to me that the temporary suspensions are still in force. The Osmolinskis had a dental office in Reading, Pennsylvania.

Among many things, Pennsylvania charged the couple with sterilizing instruments in unclean conditions in the office basement. The couple did not follow state infection control guidelines, creating "an immediate and clear danger to the public health or safety," said the bureau.

"We are not under investigation" in California, insists Dr. Jana Osmolinski in an interview, even after she was told that the state confirmed that it has opened an investigation. "We are fighting a false accusation in Pennsylvania. There will be a huge trial." She maintains that a disgruntled employee, who was fired, falsely reported the alleged problems to the state of Pennsylvania.

She claims that she was serving in a human resources capacity when the ex-employee was fired. She asserts that the firm was in California by 2013 and was not in Pennsylvania when the charges there were filed.

Thomas Weber, Pennsylvania-based lawyer for the Osmolinskis, says that the couple are suing the former owner of the Pennsylvania office. The Osmolinskis blame the former owner for any problems, if there were any.
