Captain Hook walks on water

Truuuump...Truuump will tear us apart

“Perfect Kiss” could only have been better if it involved tongues from Hooky. (Laura Duffy)

A marathon set of Joy Division and New Order classics by Manchester legend Peter Hook as the U.S. votes itself to hell is the only cure for the surrounding catastrophe. After a subtle start, “Ceremony” kicks in and kicks ass. Captain Hook sails into a sea of camera phones and walks on water from there on. All the classics are served faithfully and true.

Hook suffers no fools; after someone in the crowd insisted on running their mouth during songs he pointed out their rude behavior: “I've had enough of this chatter, you need to go and stand at the back our kid.” Eventually he had someone, maybe the same one, thrown out.

Guitarist Pottsy taking on lead vocals for “Confusion” works perfect. “Perfect Kiss” could only have been better if it involved tongues from Hooky. It was no surprise he saved the best till last. “Atmosphere,” not any easy song to pull off live was beautifully tear jerking. “Transmission,” was worth the wait and worth its weight in gold.

On the cusp of the Trump triumph, as they play “Love Will Tear Us Apart,” as if all our lives depend on it, Hook shines the light on his audience and decrees, “Whatever happens tomorrow, we've still got each other.”

Trump won the election; Peter Hook won the heart and soul of the faithful.
