22 songs by 22 local bands. Celebrate the release of Hardcore Matinee Sunday afternoon at Bar Pink!

Sunday 15
John “Swami” Reis will release his compilation of San Diego bands, Hardcore Matinee, which includes 22 tracks by 22 bands that fit his “three-fold” concept. “Not only was the record part of this idea, but there was always a live component that was part of this idea as well,” as Swami tells Dave Good in this week’s “More bang bang for your buck” Blurt. We’re assuming that “live component” goes down Sunday afternoon (4p) at Bar Pink, but the club’s site just says “record-release party,” so who the hell knows, they could just be playing the record while shilling some vinyl. Call the club for more details.... On Sunday evening, London punks Booze & Glory play Soda Bar after likeminded locals Warlords and Rat City Riot. Since 2009, Booze & Glory has “suffered no curiosity toward anything but their tried-and-true brand of hook-laden, red-brick-sidewalk-stompin’, Skinhead Oi! Rock ’n’ Roll.” K...from Hollyweird, 30-year-old glam-metal band Faster Pussycat scampers into Brick by Brick after our own Gunner Gunner...while road warriors the Bird Dogs bring “the Everly Brothers experience” to the Belly Up stage in Solana Beach.

Monday 16
San Diego’s Garth Algar is “two tall guys and an average-sized dude who are really big Star Wars and Simpsons fans that decided to play metal.” Streaming their Behind the Wall of Sleep on Bandcamp as I type — good chunkage, harsh yelling. ”Surrogate” sounds like Minor Threat, “Dethroned” could be a long-lost Sabbath track. Garth Algar headlines sets by Beira and Cryptic Languages at Tower Bar’s Metal Monday.

Soda Bar sets up Aussie psych-rockers King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard on Wednesday night!

Tuesday 17
The Hideout has Modern English performing its 1981 new wave record Mesh & Lace, which thankfully does not contain “I Melt with You.” Here’s what Trouser Press had to say about Mesh & Lace way back then: “A load of monotonous droning and shouting by a precious art band oppressively weighed down by its self-conscious 4AD pretensions.” Trouser Press had yet to realize its own pretensions in 1981. Los Angelenos Victoriana and Underpass will set it up...whilst KC rap-rock vet Tech N9ne’s at Observatory North Park behind his 15th studio set, Special Effects.

Wednesday 18
Australian psych-rock collective King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard conjure the majik of this year’s “relentless psychedelic shred fest” Nonagon Infinity at Soda Bar Wednesday night. “Customers who bought this item also bought” the latest from Black Mountain, Parquet Courts, and Brian Eno. Good company. It is a fun if same-y sounding collection. I imagine it translates better onstage. Aussie tourmates the Murlocs will set it up with their brand of delightfully sloppy garage pop.... Otherwise on Wednesday: singer/songwriters Yuna (Malaysia) and Bosco (Atlanta) split a bill at Casbah...while soul-pop singer Geographer visits the Loft in La Jolla after, appropriately enough, Rivvrs.
