Mission Bay soliloquy
Time to dive
Swimming in Mission Bay takes less motivation in July. The chill you usually feel for 23 seconds in late June is gone. I believe where I swim has the clearest water of the whole bay. And the best sand in the shallows and the deeps, too.
So, my normal route is to pick a moored sailboat and swim around it and back. Some of the boats haven’t been used in a long time and have become homes for seagull families.
I could tell my current target boat hadn’t been visited or sailed in a long time. The neglect made it an ideal home for three cawing gliders. One wasn’t gliding yet. He was all mottled, gray fluff and curiosity.
As I made my way around the boat there astern was the downy fellow almost as big as his parents. Just as I was headed back home one of the guardians lit out. It only took me a few seconds to figure I was the intended target. Periscope down, time to dive, Captain.
