Double dose of Earthless

Plus Blue Öyster Cult, Andy Frasco, and Deadbolt in San Diego clubs this weekend

BÖC's at Sycuan in El Cajon Thursday night — More cowbell!

Thursday 14
Classic-rock band Blue Öyster Cult are radio-famous for hits such as “Godzilla” and “(Don’t Fear) the Reaper,” but they are YouTube-famous for the hilarious Saturday Night Live skit “More cowbell!” You know the one. Christopher Walken plays “The Bruce Dickinson,” and he’s got a fever for which “the only prescription is more cowbell!” Crappin’ you negative, that skit has its own Wikipedia page. BÖC will love when you shout “More cowbell!” between songs at Sycuan Thursday night.... Local instrumental trio Earthless will headline two nights of space-bending psych-rock at Casbah. On Thursday, Sacri Monti and Loom will open the show. On Friday, the sonic assault continues with Joy and Harsh Toke. And those dudes with the liquid light show, Operation: Mindblow, will add their head-trip visuals both nights.... L.A.’s roots-rocking party band the U.N. and their fearless fro’d-up leader Andy Frasco will take the stage at Soda Bar after Battlehooch. Been sharing the U.N.’s “Smoking Dope n Rock n Roll” off of last year’s Half a Man record this week, and the response has been a unaniomous “Far out, man.” These dudes do soul-rock with a shit-eatin’ grin. For fans of the hippie-fest brand, it’d be the gig to see.... Best of the rest Thursday night: Authentic Sellout, Revolt-Chix, Obligerant, and Profit Heist fill a punk-rock bill at Bay Park bar Brick by Brick...while a band “you can think and dance to,” Philosophers Ray Gun, takes theoretical aim at the Merrow in Hillcrest after indie acts Sundrop Electric, Future Age, and Diamond Lakes.

Soda Bar stages local trio Soft Lions — “moody psychedelic post-riot grrl noise” — on Friday.

Friday 15
I’m gonna get you high today, ’cause it’s Friday. You ain’t got no job...and you ain’t got shit to do. Earthless. Joy. Harsh Toke. Casbah.... Miss the door in Middletown: local trio Soft Lions will play the “moody psychedelic post-riot grrl noise” off of their latest, Spellbreaker, at Soda Bar after fellow San Diegans Gloomsday and TJ gazers Mint Field...speed-metal four-piece Warhead lands at Brick by Brick with, appropriately enough, Nukem...Til-Two sets up South Wales quartet Broken Gold (“driftwood rock”?) with our own Western Settings and Diamond Lakes...while the always-fun I.B. hoodrat act Bad Kids get their garage-punk ya-ya’s at Ché Café in La Jolla.

The scariest band in the land, Deadbolt, plays Til-Two on Saturday.

Saturday 16
San Dago’s axe-grindinest, chainsawinest hellraisers — pretty much the scariest band anywhere ever — Deadbolt locks ’em in at Til-Two Saturday night. The “voodoobilly” band will headline sets by Tucson’s Ms. Frankie Stein and her garage-goth group Mission Creeps and our own surfy rock-and-soul suckers the Fink Bombs...while across town (and the musical spectrum) Jose “the Mexican Morrissey” Maldonado and his L.A.-based Smiths tribute Sweet and Tender Hooligans will undoubtedly pack the Casbah. This town loves its Smiths...speaking o’ which, an actual and factual Smith, bassist Andy Rourke, and our own Saul Q will be spinning discs at the Hideout if you want to rub elbows with someone special. I’m talking about Saul — Rourke’s a Man U supporter.... “The world’s most popular tribute to Led Zeppelin” — says so right on the Led Zepagain Fakebook page — plays House of Blues downtown on Saturday...while the “girls in the garage,” the Rosalyns, join Le Ra and Northern American at the Merrow in Hillcrest.
