100 waves in 12 hours — a Mission Beach marathon

No room in the tube with Hobgood — get your own!

On Saturday, September 19, former touring pro surfer Damien Hobgood will be joining hundreds of surfers at Mission Beach in the Hundred Wave Challenge, where participants ride 100 waves over a 12-hour period. Similar to a walk-a-thon, friends and family of the surfers will sponsor each wave ridden to benefit the Boys to Men Mentoring program.

In 1994, at the Quicksilver Pro in Fiji, Hobgood established a record highest two-wave score in pro surfing, a 19.9 out of 20 points. Kelly Slater eclipsed Hobgood’s record one year later, scoring a perfect 20.0.
