Fans of the art-punk brand are looking forward to Murder City Devil Spencer Moody's set at Casbah Wednesday night!
Local doom-metal dudes Deep Sea Thunder Beast hit the Merrow Monday night!
Sunday night at-a-glance: from Edmonton in Alberta in Canada, indie singer/songer Sean Nicholas Savage sets up at Soda Bar behind his new record, the new-wave-y Other Death...Phish guitarist Trey Anastasio rides Paper Wheels, his latest foray into fusion into House of Blues...while B-Side Players wind-up the Music Box with their Latin-funk fiesta.
“Three dudes who like it louder than is probably wise,” the local doom-metal group Deep Sea Thunder Beast follows Seattle post-metal act He Whose Ox Is Gored into the Merrow Monday night. The Ox Gorers lighten the load of heavy metal with keys and soaring vocal harmonies on their new EP, Rumors, which is spreading now on the interwebs if you care to check them out...otherwise, Dublin, Ireland–based artist Gavin James and New York troubadour Marc Scibilia split a TV themesters-themed Anti-Monday bill at Casbah.
Hollywood hard-rock act Scott Weiland & the Wildabouts wind-up the Music Box on Tuesday.
Stone Temple’s Scott Weiland and his Wildabouts rock the Music Box on Tuesday night. I just watched a few live videos from Hollywood. He looks good, sounds fine, and the band’s got hard-rock chops to spare. Also, L.A.’s industrial-strength alt-rock act the Icarus Line opens the show, which should be good. Gotta say, I’m glad to see that room is bringing the blam as well as the flam.... Miss the door on India, multi-instrumentalist Bryce Avary, aka Rocket Summer, launches nearby at Casbah. Plane Without a Pilot lands first...the proggy hard-rocking supergroup Antemasque (At the Drive-In, Mars Volta) is at Observatory North Park...while blues-rock slinger Jonny Lang plays Dave Good’s Of Noted show at Belly Up in Solana Beach.
San Diego voodoo-pop band Botanica Chango play a record-release at the Irenic on Wednesday.
Murder City Devil Spencer Moody takes the stage at Casbah for this week’s set to see. I’ve always been a fan of Mr. Moody’s pen and pipes, and his most recent singles “I Relent” and “Single Car Accident” donut disappoint. His new band features Void guitarist Bubba Dupree, and according to Brooklyn Vegan, the show’s “a dark bluesy, folky rock thing.” With Moody’s crunching rock-salt singin’ and vision. Fink Bombs and Foreign Bodies open the show.... Reader contributor Dryw Keltz caught up with local band Botanica Chango for this week’s “Chango voodoo” Blurt. Flip or click there to read all about them and their record-release this week at the Irenic. Local favorites Gary Wilson & the Blind Dates and Bit Maps set it up. I was asked to tell you to bring a flashlight. And whatever Halloween candy you have left over. Especially Reese’s cups. And Kit-Kats. And Skittles.... Over on El Cajon, indie-rock Atlanta band Reptar’s at Soda Bar with their Lurid Glow...while Dilly Dally delivers Desire to the Hideout.
