Competition areas are divided into three sections: San Diego County, Orange County, and L.A. to Santa Barbara. School competitions are divided into nine contest divisions: San Diego County high school divisions 1, 2, 3, 4, and middle schools, Orange County high school and middle schools, and L.A. to Santa Barbara high school and middle school. Featuring top youth surfers that compete in other high-level venues, these heats, with local school pride and a shot at the state championship at stake, can take on the atmosphere of a professional event.

The season kicks off at Church’s break at San Onofre State Beach where Orange County middle school divisions 1 & 2 take to the waves on Saturday, October 17, and San Diego County high school divisions 1 & 2 on Sunday, October 18.
