What are you reading right now?

“Get the Guy: Learn Secrets of the Male Mind to Find the Man You Want and the Love You Deserve, by Matthew Hussey. He’s a matchmaker and relationship coach. He has a reality show called Ready for Love and a weekly gig on The Today Show with Kathie Lee and Hoda. He does relationship seminars for women all over the country; he coaches them on life and dating. His book is so fun; he’s like the Tony Robbins of dating. He gives tips, not just about dating, but about life, fitness, work — kind of like the whole package of being a great woman.

“I’ve read almost all of the relationship books, and a lot of them are, like, ‘Sex, and men, and women...’ and what we should do and what we should not do. He says that stuff a little bit, but he also says, ‘Get your life together. Go out with your girlfriends. Have fun. Work on you. Talk to three guys a day. Give three people in the Starbucks a compliment. Let someone go ahead of you.’”

“The Andy Cohen Diaries: A Deep Look at a Shallow Year, by Andy Cohen. He based it off of Andy Warhol’s journals, the ones he published before he died. Andy Cohen has a show on Bravo; he’s, like, a really fun celebrity guy. The book is his diary of his crazy year in New York, being a funny gay man, and all the celebrities he’s met. It’s a fun read, because he’s met so many crazy people. ‘So, like, one day I was hanging out with John Mayer and his dog...’”

Any favorite stories in there?

“Just his adventures hanging out with Sarah Jessica Parker, because I love Sex and the City. And one of his boyfriends was actually a friend of mine, so there’s a connection for me.”

Captivating

What book has been most life-changing for you?

“Captivating: Unveiling the Mystery of a Woman’s Soul, by Stasi and John Eldredge. It’s a book for women, and it’s super-inspiring about your life and the changes you go through as a child with your mom and your dad and then becoming a woman. You know how little girls like to twirl their dresses and be all girly, and how screwed up that gets with all the stuff that we go through. It’s about how to change that around and still have that life-love. It’s a spiritual book; it’s about looking in the mirror and loving yourself and being captivated with yourself. It’s a healing book.”

Heart Thoughts

“I also like this one — Heart Thoughts, by Louise Hay. I follow her on social media, and I feel like she’s really helping me right now with personal self-healing. Because I just went through some personal issues, like losing my car, my job, my home, moving to a new city and restarting my life, and having some family stuff happen. These are things you can read every day; like, ‘I’m on my next step to healing,’ and then it has a little beautiful thing, an affirmation that you can read to yourself every day. It’s a beautiful book.”

Who is your favorite author?

“C.S. Lewis. The wisdom, the spirituality, the direction, the hope. He’s a classic.”
