SDSU international students discuss American fashion

While enjoying brunch in San Diego, I found Australian (and one Brit) SDSU students Alice Himelstein, Bridie Davey, Sarah Astrada, Becky Oaks, and Sierra Callaway enjoying a break from studying.

The five friends had some strong opinions concerning the style choices of San Diegans.

“A lot of people look the same here. There is a real California vibe. They have their own look.” Said Alice Himelstein who wore a blouse from the online store Sauce, paired with bright accessories she purchased while visiting Cabo.

Liverpool-born Becky Oaks who wore casual denim shorts, a gray tee, and a pair of Ray Bans. “It’s shocking to me, no one wears this shit in Britain.”

Bridie Davey, adds, “The shopping here is not better; it’s cheaper. I don’t necessarily like a lot of it. I am from Melbourne, so it’s very different.” Davey wore items from Top Shop and Forever 21.

“Everything is so casual,” adds Sarah Astrada who wore Ray Ban sunglasses and head to toe Top Shop. “A Top Shop just opened in Melbourne so we got a bit crazy,” she explains of her Top Shop wardrobe items.

As for California men, the girls are not impressed.

“They are bit too forward. They scare me!” Birdie says.

“We miss witty banter,” adds Sierra.

“And conversation,” adds Becky.

“I prefer British or Australian guys,” concludes Birdie.

As for the favorite shopping spots in SD, Sarah says, “We don’t have any.”

Sierra adds, “We were all just talking about this the other day. We prefer to shop online but if we need basics we’ll go to Forever 21.”
