Pulling off that Monday Morning look
What casual collegiates wore at SDSU.
SDSU on a Monday morning is a sea of fashion mediocrity. The campus is sprinkled with students wearing sneakers, joggers, yoga pants, tees and top knots. I get it; I do. No one likes Mondays, so comfort and Mondays are synonymous. I spotted a few SDSU students who were able to pull off "Monday Morning" looks in comfort and style.
Elyse Lafargue wore a simple black and white dress. While her shift dress was no doubt as comfortable as a pair of pajamas, its mock neck design and classic color scheme gave her a sophisticated, un-dowdy look.
“I never wear sweats unless I am working out,” the 23-year-old Communications major told me.
When asked what her least favorite trend around campus is, Lafargue said, “I don’t like when people wear dresses with sneakers. I don’t like closed toed shoes.”
Lafargue shops mostly at discount retailers like Forever 21 and H&M.
“My dress is from Forever 21, and surprisingly I haven’t seen anyone else wearing it yet. I like it because it’s simple. I am into simple and classic styles."
18-year-old Kimberly Kolenic bundled up in a comfy sweater and scarf in classic fall colors as she rode the short distance from her dorm to her 11 a.m. class. She wore a classic pair of suede penny loafers.
“Pretty much everything I am wearing is from Target,” said Kolenic, who is on a tight clothing budget.
Next up, Justina Bae wore a long, billowy, pastel skirt paired with a simple tee, an oversized sweater paired with a Top Shop bohemian hat, and a pair of worn-in, black Converse.
“My favorite store is Top Shop. One just opened in Fashion Valley Mall. They did some marketing on campus and they gave me two $20 gift cards. Because of that I only had to spend about $16 on this hat,” said Bae with a smile.
Bae wore a Brandy Melville top, and an Urban Outfitters skirt. Bae gets most of her style inspiration from YouTube.
“My favorite channels are Claire Marshall’s Hey Claire and Clothes Encounters. Pretty much all of my outfits are inspired by them,” said the 21-year-old Marketing major.
