The KSDS Jazz Live series kicks off their summer festivities with Peter Sprague & Friends doubling as CD- release party for Sprague’s new Ocean In Your Eyes disc featuring the guitarist's core duo of Gunnar Biggs on bass, Duncan Moore on drums with vocalists Leonard Patton, Kevyn Lettau, Lisa Hightower-Kibbe, and Matt Falker. The concert is in the Saville Theatre at 14th & C Street, doors open at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are free for Jazz 88 members and $10 general admission.

Wednesday 25
Trumpeter Gilbert Castellanos pulls his usual double-shift, hosting the Young Lions Series at Croce’s Park West (2760 Fifth Avenue) this week featuring Chaz Cabrera at 7:00 p.m. $5 cover. He’ll play the first set, then jet on over to the Latin Jazz Jam at Seven Grand (3054 University Avenue) where the house band includes Irving Flores on piano, Rob Thorsen on bass and Mike Holguin on drums. Downbeat is at 9:00 p.m., it’s free, and musicians are encouraged to bring their instruments.

Thursday 26
Saxophonist/ EWI man Bill Shreeve presents the Bill Shreeve Quartet with John Opferkuch on piano, Justin Grinnell on bass and Toby Ahrens on drums at Croce’s Park West. The music hits at 7:00 p.m. and will set you back $5 for the cover charge.

Friday 27
Flute master Lori Bell is playing with LA pianist Mike Garson and bassist Bob Magnusson at the La Jolla Community Center (6811 La Jolla Boulevard) at 8:00 p.m. A $20 cover gets you catered appetizers and a glass of wine … down the street, the Ben Wanicur Trio with Jason Shattil on piano, Wanicur on bass, and Duncan Moore on drums are hitting Cusp (7955 La Jolla Shores Drive) from 6:30 – 9:30 p.m. no cover charge … the Zinchiladas with Alex Lopez, Barry Jaquess, Melanie Jaquess, John Cunningham, and Alberto Diaz are doing that Latin thing at D’lish Bistro (386 E. H Street) from 6:00–8:30 p.m. the admission and the parking are free… the Bi-National Mambo Orchestra under the direction of trumpeter Bill Caballero is down at Dizzy’s (4275 Mission Bay Drive) at 8:00 p.m. $ 15 cover.

Saturday 28
98 Bottles (2400 Kettner Boulevard) presents the Robert Dove Quartet featuring Dove on tenor saxophone, with Jason Shattil on piano, Dean Hulett on bass, and Kevin Higuchi on drums. It all starts at 8:00 p.m. $ 20 cover.

Sunday 29
The Downbeat Big Band is at the Lafayette Hotel (2223 El Cajon Boulevard) from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. $10 per person.
