The characters of Comic-Con

Comic-Con is here and the streets of the Gaslamp are overrun with zombies, Assassin Creed junkies, comic book lovers, Pokémon characters, and various superheroes. It is, hands down, the very best opportunity for some amazing people-watching.

Take the trolley downtown or park at Horton Plaza and walk around for an hour or so. You will not be disappointed.

Outside of the San Diego Convention Center I ran into actor Nathan Barnatt, whose Youtube channel is absolutely hilarious.

He wore a costume sponsored by State Farm from a recent commercial he appeared in on Adult Swim.

Next up is C.J Withey and Janel Petch. Both were dressed as characters from the video game Assassin's Creed.

“We met at Comic-Con last year because we both dressed as Assassin's Creed characters.”

The two are carrying on a long-distance romance. Withey lives in New Zealand (he flies out every year for Comic-Con) while Petch resides in L.A.

“My parents were fine about us meeting at Comic-Con. They were a little upset that she is American,” said Withey with a laugh.

Withey is most excited to try out the massive obstacle course set up by Ubisoft to mimic a real-life Assassin's Creed experience. It is located outside of the convention center on the Martin Luther King Jr. Promenade. Fans of the game are given the opportunity to essentially play a video game character complete with a 25-foot "Leap of Faith" section for the bravest of diehards.

On my way back to my car, I ran into Macstar Laitselec. She got into the Comic-Con spirit while on the job, flipping a sign for the Gaslamp’s Pizza by the Slice. She was dressed as Dark Sora from Kingdom Hearts.

“I’ve been to Comic-Con five times. I am working today, but I’m going [to Comic-Con] on Thursday and Friday.”

Laitselec says her favorite aspect of Comic-Con is seeing what everyone dresses up as.
