Funniest blooper reel ever

On a cold, wet night (on the rare occasion we get one in San Diego), my first suggestion is John Carpenter’s In the Mouth of Madness (USA, 1994, New Line Cinema). I recommend the Blu-ray version for the clean look. This underappreciated film from the director of Halloween deserves a special edition with bonus material. That isn’t out but should be. This is the closest thing you’ll get to an H.P. Lovecraft story on film, and Sam Neill’s in top form. Definitely scary enough that you’ll want to turn on the lights for it. Available on Amazon Instant Video and Netflix.

My second selection is from Fox’s Mel Brooks Collection — Young Frankenstein (USA, 1974, 20th Century Fox), starring Gene Wilder and Peter Boyle. This Blu-ray has wonderful featurettes and quite possibly the funniest blooper reel ever. After those, you can watch what I consider Brooks’s best movie and one of the funniest movies ever made. Perfect to watch before going to bed. Available through Amazon, DirecTV, and on Fox Blu-ray.
