Trumpeter Gilbert Castellanos continues his weekly Jam Session in North Park. It's the "Latin Week" session, featuring pianist Irving Flores, bassist Rob Thorsen, drummer Mike Holguin, and percussionist Charlie Chavez. Held at the 7 Grand Whiskey Bar, 3054 University Ave. 21+, no cover charge. Musicians bring your instruments!

Thursday 24
98 Bottles (2400 Kettner, Little Italy), presents the Kiefer Shackelford Trio. The Southern California pianist/composer will be joined by bassist Owen Clapp and drummer Matt Witek. Shackelford will explore the music of Michael Jackson, Bob Marley, Paul Simon, and McCoy Tyner. Tickets are $12 at the door. 8 pm.

Friday 25
Mark Dresser Quintet plays at Dizzy's (4275 Mission Bay Drive). This will be a CD-release party celebrating Dresser's new disc Nourishments, just out on Clean Feed Records. The bassist will be joined by pianist Joshua White, trombonist Michael Dessen, tenor saxophonist Ben Schachter, and drummer Kjell Nordeson. Tickets are $15 general public, $10 students. Concert begins at 8 p.m.

San Diego flute virtuoso Lori Bell continues her "Fourth Friday Series," at the La Jolla Community Center (6811 La Jolla Boulevard), joined by Bay Area pianist Grant Levin and bassist Bob Magnusson. They will be performing the music of Cedar Walton, Herbie Hancock, and Joe Henderson, plus originals and standards. Tickets can be reserved for $20 by calling 858 459-0831. $25 at the door. Free valet parking.

98 Bottles presents the Matt Smith Neu Jazz Trio. This new group features Smith on drums and trombone, with Ed Kornhauser on piano and Mack Leighton on bass. Tickets are $12 at the door. 8 p.m.

Saturday 26
Dizzy's presents a CD-release event for "West Coast Strings," featuring guitarist/vocalist Diane Hubka, with Peter Sprague on guitar, Gunnar Biggs on bass, and Duncan Moore on drums. $15 cover. Starts at 8 p.m.

You can catch the Weis Guy's Jazztet at 98 Bottles, featuring Andy and Pete Weis, with Dan Townsend and Don Skelton. $15 at the door. 8 p.m.
