RSVP cop car runs aground on Shelter Island

At around 10:30 a.m. on October 15, as I was leaving Shelter Island, I noticed some police activity near the Shelter Island boat-launch ramp across from Humphreys.

A San Diego Police Department R.S.V.P. (Retired Senior Volunteer Patrol) car had apparently driven over a small concrete island near the crosswalk. The car was stuck, with its undercarriage resting on the small square of raised concrete. The elderly male driver was out of the vehicle along with his female partner, surveying the damage to the car.

Two other SDPD patrol cars were also on the scene, with three officers looking over the damage as well. When I asked one of the officers if they cared to comment on what had happened, I got a stern “NO!”

A tow truck arrived shortly thereafter and removed the vehicle.
